  • I wonder if Jake Arthur signing at Newcastle had anything to do with it? He might have thought it was a sign BA was coming and with Matt Arthur already there he might have thought it would limit his progression at Newcastle.

    • Yeah....... the thought of being coached by BA would be enough to scare most juniors who don't have the surname Arthur.

      • There is absolutely no chance that BA would want to coach his sons if given a choice and I could not imagine BA being offered a job at Newcastle.....it goes against the whole reason that they would be letting O"Brien go.

        • You are old and delusional, BA would absolutely love to coach his sons again he misses them and gives them the inside run to promote them.. Going to Newcastle he falls into it again don't forget jakey is an elite GF try scoring weapon and Matty would be the first one picked under BA he would remind everyone he's not NEPO dad again and he's a NSW rep.

  • I hope he goes well and forms a good combination with Smith, like it was when Brad Drew and PJ Marsh were playing for us.
Welcome Da Silva, earn your stripes and show us what you can do.

    • Yes but Drew left the next year because Brian Smith made the wrong call in the GF and effectively lost the game with his mismanagement. If they had diferent builds it could work, I hope they try TDS as a 5/8. A good hooker play's like a half and a good half can play as a hooker.

      • Not saying impossible but unlikely we signed him to play 5/8.

Maybe if Smith bagns the door down and Papali'i not doing great, Ryles experiements?

  • I really hope Ryley Smith is locked up long term. He's better than De Silva. I hope we didn't pay over for him.

    • Mutts i dare say, considering the length of the deal particularly Da Silva is the future. Why go for Da Silva anyway if you feel Smith is the future? Just move forward with Smith and sign a back-up who are around.

      • I feel like you have both on the roster at the same time and go from there rather than throwing all your eggs in the one basket. Both have different attributes we could do with. Smith is full of energy, tenacity and has shown how he can spark an attack. Da Silva is more of your crafty style of hooker. I see a squad where Smith starts and gets Parra rolling, allowing TDS to come on and contribute more in attack.

"That's a lot of cash for someone who has basically done nothing at FG level.
He'd want to be bloody good and by year 3 we have a bargain."
