Heres a sample of the new safe standing area behind the goal area at bankwest.

A big hit in soccer all over the world, the WSW will have a safe standing area behind the goal like this.

It was highly demanded by their fans in the consultation for Bankwest and got approved to the delight of WSW fans.

Should we trial this for our club and try to develop more of a tribal feel?, put the swarm or eels army in there and try and develop an area for the more active and vocal supporters?

As far as i know its never been done in NRL, might it be a smart idea for our club to utilise our new stadiums facilities and market it to the hard core supporters?

I reckon it seriously might be worth a try and could be a unique way to market the ground and get more of a tribal supporter base feel at the ground.

Your thoughts?

Would you want to experience a NRL game in an area like this?

Of course its not going to be like a soccer safe standing area but we could get our own rugby league feel going.

Id like the club to look into it as an opportunity to do something different, be ahead of the game as far as crowd participation goes..

Could this safe standing idea work in the NRL?

Wouldnt cost the club anything to try, all the facilities are already made for the WSW at bankwest and ready to go.

  • I like the idea & would love to be one of the fans standing behind the rails singing & chanting, Sadly I don’t think league is that type of sport where fans jump around and sing & chant for the entire 80 min’s.

    • The fans did it back in the day shatteredeel, im proposing the stadium puts blue and yellow spot lights on the area and turn it into a bit of a stage for fans, put it on the big screen every now and then, im proposing to turn it into a bit of a party atmosphere especially while we are attacking.

      • I'd be annoyed if my seat was right behind the standing area.

  • I personally don’t want to stand at the footy, other than  to celebrate a try, but if others want an area like that, I’d have no issue with it.

  • I’ve been to many games, but never to full a full sell out game, where Parra had a crowd capacity problem

Ive worked with guys whom were at the Forest v Liverpool crush at Hillsborough over in England, and their memories are very bitter

When I was a younger man so much younger than today, Parra Jesus used to gather the Eels faithful on the Eastern hill from the under 21’s, through Reserves and then onto First Grade. There would be no crowd squashing but lots of kids rumbling the ball on that old hill.

Unfortunately Parra Jesus has now disappeared, and albeit in recent times the caped crusaders with masks have gathered on the quarter line to impose their presence. Their absence is also noted in the new stadium

On the old hill we would drink, smoke and watch the kids rumble for the ball, with those days now over, these new steel barriers in question appear the norm. I wouldn’t see any Parra problems, just WSW soccer problems

    • HIllsborough was different because of the barrier between the stands and the playing surface, the fans couldn't get on the field to escape the crush. That wouldn't be a problem at BankWest.

      • The issue was also the crowd management from the police. The Hillsborough Commander is about to face trial for manslaughter. The Leppings Lane end also didn't have a valid safety certificate. I think BankWest is fine regarding standing terraces and the policing of crowds.

    • Davo we are only talking a few rows bro, it would be totally safe imo.

There was a whole host of factors at Hillsborough that we wouldnt have at Bankwest.

Im only proposing a few rows for the fans who want to be more active.

  • Yeah nah, I'm too fat to be standing for 80+ minutes mate. They'd have to take me out on the medicab.
