Simmo hit the market to test his worth. He has now had his worth confirmed and is staying put... I think that timeline of events tells us all we need to know.

Ego bruises will heal. Now Simmo has to show the kind of form in the kind of areas that JR wants to see to make him impossible not to pick.

This is a pretty good outcome for the Eels really.

A fit Simmonsson is an excellent player and can play instead of Lomax if Lomax leaves. No biggie.

Good backup back to have in reserve grade.

Now we need a quality centre to replace Russell.

Bailey Simonsson played six (6) games for the Eels in 2025. He played either right wing (replacing Lomax injured or SOO) or right centre (replacing Penisini (suspension I think?)). His Win/Loss was 1-5.

R6, R Wing vs Raiders 12-50 (L)

R7, R Wing vs Tigers 38-22 (W)

R9, R Wing vs Sharks 18-28 (L)

R10, R Wing vs Dolphins 16-20 (L)

R19, R Ctr vs Panthers 10-32 (L)

R20, R Ctr vs Raiders 16-40 (L)

Simonsson had strong carries from the backfield and some good passing/kick chasing (for tries) moments. But also some weaker moments in defense late season (those Panthers and Raiders games). I don't get why some infer Simonsson staying indicates Lomax going. Huh? Lomaxc went on TV to sday he is staying and Ryles very clearly has Lomax ahead of Simmo. What is more surprising is probably Russell stealing left centre and now it is Russell's to lose, so that leaves Simmo as backup outside back. Maybe first cab off rank due to injuries, suspensions or rep duties, and there are always those, so some FG is almost guranteed for Simmo?
