Arthur calls out Eels desire ahead of must-win match

His talented roster have struggled for consistency as the finals near.

They’re two wins outside of the top four with two games to play, but Parramatta Eelscoach Brad Arthur knows his troops won’t make an impact on the NRL post-season if they can’t iron out their biggest issue.

The Eels head to Suncorp Stadium this week for an all-important clash with the Brisbane Broncos, who dominated them a month ago but have since found their own fortunes fading.

The big home loss last time the teams met has haunted Arthur since, as it epitomised the Jekyll-and-Hyde nature of his Eels outfit in 2022. Now the coach is demanding more focus from his troops at the season’s most important time.

“We’ve showed what we can do,” Arthur told AAP.

“We need to move past (being) the team that can do this and do that when we want to. We need to be the team that wants to do it all the time.

“If we show that want and desire and it’s not good enough, I can live with that.”

Despite knowing what needs to be done, Arthur admitted that motivation was ultimately up to his players, and he hadn’t been using the prospect of a top four finish to try and inspire them as they should be energised enough.

“You’ve got a job to do, you’ve just got to do it. Motivation has got to come from within,” Arthur said.

“There’s plenty to play for. We don’t need to worry much about motivation, we feel our destiny is in our own hands.”

  • You wont motivation and you drop 2 players from a winning team that played well and replace with nobodies. The shouldnt but needs motivation to piss you the fuck off

    • Imagine getting your opportunity in first grade for quite a while. You play decent minutes and do really well and can feel proud in your game.

Then you get dropped for the coaches son.

Hard to be motivated by that.

Haven't really heard anyone justify the change yet as it is indefensible

      • Having been in a workplace where the boss had 3, yes 3, of his sons working there, percieved favourtism is a thing, and it slowly becomes toxic. My (ex) wife used to bang on about it every god damn week, and she didn't even work there!

If Jake was like Nathan Cleary, it wouldn't be an issue. But the kid is just too damn slow.

        • It depends mate if you're talking about the owner of the business employing his sons that's a different story.  Brad doesn't own the club but is acting like he does.  Its a disgraceful situation.  Its tearing the heart out of the club.  Its total bs.

          • Agree and he doesn't seem to care less and neither does the CEO or the board

        • Nepotism and corruption is ripe everywhere it seems

      • I would like to hear Brissy and his mate Da Rocks plus Coryns thoughts.

Love to hear the excuses they come up with.

        • I gues trust in BA...  Bwahahaha - you gotta laugh otherwise you'll go mental trying to understand such a ridiculous selection

        • No, we don't.  I think most are over the endless passive aggressive drivel.

        • They just talk constant dribble
