Apa Twidle signs with the Bears

  • Rising Apa Twidle will leave the Parramatta Eels at the end of 2026 after agreeing to a three-year deal with the new Perth Bears (joining in 2027).
  • The deal is in a cooling-off period, but he’s expected to go ahead with it because the offer is significantly better.
  • Twidle burst onto the scene with a standout debut (2 tries in 3 minutes), which attracted strong interest from multiple clubs.
  • Parramatta reportedly only offered a low-value development contract (~$80k), while Perth provided better financial security and opportunity.
  • A key factor: the Bears are offering him a chance to play in the halves, rather than being used as a utility/backline option.
  • He becomes one of the early signings helping build the Bears’ inaugural squad under coach Mal Meninga.

Bottom line:
Parramatta unearthed a serious talent, but underpaid and under-positioned him—Perth stepped in with money, role clarity, and long-term security, and likely pinched him.

                • I like those guys too. But I'm talking about winning a comp not just scoring points or winning a few games. I certainly don't have all the answers hence why I'm very enthusiastic about hiring people who have proven that they actually do have the answers.
History shows that when you look at GF winners that side was brimming with rep quality. Last year we got rid of the NZ number 6 and an Australian/ NSW winger, replacing them with lesser quality. That's not building a roster it's going backwards.

                  • Those teams are usually brimming with Rep players as a by product of the teams success. What I'm trying to say is we have talent in our team, we just need to be better as a defensive unit and someone like Guymer fits that. Penrith have had players like Sorensen who is not a rep level player but knows his role and bases his game on effort areas. This maybe a big call but I don't think Liam Martin makes Rep teams if he didn't play for Penrith. There's nothing dynamic about Liam Martin, his game is quite simple

  • I would've copped a little bit overs for Russell.   Loved watching his rise .hope I wasn't one who bagged him at start

"Yeah they won 70% of the twenty games prior to Galvin's arrival and only 50% in the twenty games since he arrived. It is all Gus' fault. He needs to admit he made a mistake. Everyone else is already thinking it so he needs to man up and admit it.…"
