Good call by MON and Ryles to walk away. Now that's how the smart negotiators operate. Our terms not there bullshit terms. So which Eels supporters would have been happy paying 650k for Da Silver. Maybe losing Ryley Smith.LB, Coryn
Well Ryles showed interest, whether big or small still showed interest. If he's sold on Smith why show any interest at all in another Hooker, particularly one younger than Smith?
It seems losing Smith would be a big issue to you, what if we signed Da Silva with nobody else interested and lose Smith in the process? You'd have to back Ryles as I have and many others here including yourself have.
You are claiming Ryles knows better than me but then going on Smith is better than Da Silva, well why go for him whether small or not? I doubt Ryles would go for a Fullback with Iongi or a back-rower with Kautoga or numerous Props with Tuivaiti re-signing. He got De Beli but won't impact Tuivaiti.
If we stick with Smith, happy days I like him and he is capable.
We still need a hooker regardless of Smith. Hands is shit and Lussick is slightly better but only for 20min per game. We need depth in that position. Coinakis isnt in the flegg team and the ones in front of him are not insane talents so we got no idea how long it will be till Coinakis is ready.
100% JR went after TDS because we need a 9 for depth at a minimum. JR would have offfered him money wise and positon wise whatever he could and left it there. I doubt it will match Manly's offer and fair enough. Eels should not guarantee him a starting spot or 650k based on what we have seen. Its how shit team stay shit. They let player and their agents command what they want becaue they get desperate. It fucks of their cap. I am with Graham on this 100%
You can get an ok no.2 Hooker. Lets say 100% they went for Brailey, Starling and now Da Silva, all them are considered starting worthy. You can still get a decent back-up where Smith stays the starter.
Yep I am not saying we cant get a good back up. Just saying TDS wants to start and we cannot guarantee that. So I would not call this a recuruitment blunder. RR made the right choice by not meeting his demands.
No chance I'm paying 650 per season no chance. For me his salary trajectory at this point in time is in the 250-350 max per year.Very similar to what Mahoney was on when he was going good for us.
I thought I saw an article where it was 3 yrs at 650:total for me that's good buying but if someone dummy is willing to stump up 2 mill over 3 years they can have him.
Fuck being favours twice we were twice we miss out on a tiger
We are starting to be a joke as someone said we only get 35 years old players who no one wants
What makes you think we missed signing him? Just because the media link us to every off contract player doesn't mean we are actively pursuing them. Even if we did meet with the player, that doesn't mean the club had decided that's the player they want. That's how interviews work.
We don't know the internal dialogue within the club. I'm confident they know the type of players they are looking for, and will only land the players that fit that mould. You don't build a team by buying individuals - that just gets you an incoherent bunch of players.
Well put Finny and spot on.
I'd say we are linked because much like 6 there glaring holes on the roster.
TDS Sandon Smith and alike are prime candidates to fill them.
The fact that JR has talked to TDS Blaise Talagi Galvin and alike confirms the interest. If we aren't linked then what's the point in JR meeting him I mean it's what it is.
While I agree not all the media say is correct when your HC is interviewing the mentioned we were interested.
