Absolutly unbeleivable what is happening at Penrith

The poaching of players at Penrith is highlighting the most painful truth of this so called sport.

It is time for the players developed through a clubs junior system to have a salary cap benifit ,say, 50% of their contract value added to their salary cap.The longer that player stays at their junior club the lower the deduction of their contract to the salary cap gets down to 15% of their contract value.

There has to be a financial benifit to the football club to develope players. I say good on the Riff.

I know players move clubs for one reason or another but a juniours club has to have the financial means to counter the offers from rival clubs

  • Wealthy clubs dont want the salary cap!

  • Need to be a dit careful. Teams like Brisbane have a huge nursery and would compile great cheap roster. Would need to have fine print sorted.

  • If a player signs with another club 20% of contract should be added to existing clubs salary cap to compensate. This way there's a benefit in someway to either club. The big end of town however wouldn't allow it , it would negatively affect the status quo.

Not many of the games major shareholders seem to want any semblance of a fair system for all.

On top of this 1% of all contracts signed should go to a players designated junior club. This would encourage league in the country and help out junior clubs financially who traditionally struggle for funds.

  • The NRL's whole labour management system is broken and needs to be completely rebuilt.

Long time posters know my ideas so I won't repost them yet again.

    • We all know you're totally against a draft .

      • Which is why I won't repeat myself

        • Come on it's the off-season , give it to us both barrels . You could do a video blog on it?

    • I'm with you on this Brett. Does anyone have the gumption to implement change though...?

      • Well I think the issue is more vision than courage tbh. The game has to develop a "whole-of-game" mentality where we get to the point where we understand that we are only as strong as our weakest club.

Look at the Tigers, they've struck out two years running trying to get the hottest player on the market because they simply are not a destination location, they cannot attract blue chippers without paying massively over the odds, sometimes not even then.

That should ring alarm bells at League Central.

      • 'Lets make the NRL Great Again' could be a great banner to march with outside NRL headquarters. So who wants to start the march? Any volunteers?

"Yep, I'd much rather Paulo on our side than in the opposition. He had one of his best seasons for many years this year and is still strong and skilful. As you say, I can see Junior in a mentoring role for the younger players."

"Add to that the long list of rookies at the club, many of which were thrown into NRL last season. It's not quite Dad's Army, but the club does need to ensure that we continue to have the right mix of experience and youth."

"Yeah if we didn't sign de Belin with the chance we keep him for 2027 i would feel much better. It all depends on how father time goes about it. Does he decline faster? Or is Ryles using him very well to the point he adds value in other areas? Having…"
