Just a thought regarding the salary cap findings that are supposebly coming out within a fortnight. I would much prefer the findings to come out as late as possible. If we find out within 2 weeks that our season is gone, can you imagine how hard it will be for the players to turn up for the next 15 or so weeks and give their all. And then there is the fans...

I keep hearing that the findings should come out as soon as possible for the fans but I'd much prefer it to be later in the season so we can keep playing competitively for as long as possible. Thoughts?

The way I see it is let the broncos and Cowboys can fight it out for this year but I believe we can win it in 2017. That is presuming that we will be put out of the running this year.

  • We have the team to win it this year you idiot. Or should we just let Broncos & Cowboys fight it out? Go away halfwit.
    • I am presuming we will be put out for salary cap cheating, otherwise yes we would be a chance this year
    • We lose 4-6 points at most, make Semi's, win comp.
    • I like your optimism. Hope so but seems unlikely
  • Better to get the result as soon as possible
Imagine if the decision was put on hold until the last round and we finished minor premiers and the point deduction took us out of the 8, how dirty will you snd the players feel
  • Hi James,

You'd suspect that since the NRL Intregity Unit is taking it's time, they suspect something isn't right with & they're being pretty thorough. Bearing in mind, historically, the NRL is

1 - actually getting tougher on cap breaches (despite common thinking & media trumping), &

2 - especially tougher on mid to larger breaches,

3 - even tougher on a culture of "ongoing" breaches 2 or more years in succession (e.g. warriors 2003-04), &

4 - hellish where there is "deliberate" concealed , misconduct & deliberate deception (e.g. Dogs 2000-02, 2yrs, where 2 Dogs officials were jailed, Storm 06-10, 5yrs 2 books fraud), &

5 - proudly hold the severity of punishments of those scandalous points in history as precedents, &

6 - Are becoming increasingly concerned with TPA's & need to set a NEW PRECEDENT re TPA's

    -----

I think the severity of our penalty will depend on the (1) quantum of breach , (2) over how many years & (3) most importantly of all whether the NRL believe there is an ongoing culture within the Eels of hiding deliberate rorting.

    Scenario 1: Worse Case

At WORST, IF there's any significant quantum of breaches &/or evidence of deliberate ongoing rorting of TPA's Hell will rain down on us - derailing not just 2016, but potentially, part of 2017.

Especially in light of the PWC reform which would then be seen as a deceptive smokescreen.

Even worse, it may also involve ASIC, Police bodies etc as deliberate misleading actions (e.g. inflated invoicing for goods not received etc) swimming in dangerous waters.

Potentially, the ramifications may be felt further than anyone imagines.

There could even be an larger investigation by the Integrity unit into TPA's that might cause unimaginable seismic shifts - especially if the media & public push the wheelbarrow & their own whistleblowing forcing an investigation.

The media are key players in this, as the NRL Intregity Unit go on public record as monitoring what's in the media.

    Scenario 2: Not unlikely

If the current investigation into us reveal smallish quantums of TPA's & other miscellaneous payments that affect caps 2012-15 - we might escape with a significant fine & at worse minor points loss (or suspended points loss) with stringent conditions.

    Scenario 3: Unicorn Dreams

Best case, we're all clear. Here's hoping.

To this point, I have no idea which way the cards will fall.
  • I'd rather know now. I'm tired of my son asking me "how many points are we going to lose dad?"

I want to put him out of his misery, all he talks about is making the finals, he was pumped all off season. I may need to find him a new hobby to occupy his mind.
