A Day At The Footy

I have a confession. I've fallen in love with the football experience again.Yes, the results have disappointed me.I hate the season finishing early once more.I feel like a broken record saying "next year" for the umpteenth time. But something has changed this season. For the first time in a long time I'm enjoying the contest. I'm calling out at the game much more than I have in a while. There's a sense of anticipation whenever we send the ball to the right edge. There's the enjoyment of the collision as our forwards take on the opposition pack. Now I'm not making excuses for our team. I spoke briefly with BA tonight and he said that all of the close losses this year just weren't good enough. If the coach won't make excuses with a fan, then I'm not about to do it for him.Yet my confession has much more to it than the fortunes of my team. This year I've been fortunate enough to meet quite a few of my fellow fans for the first time. A day at the footy has become a time to catch up with these new mates before and after the game, talking footy over a beer or two and just having plenty of laughs. So a bit of a shout out to all the fellow 1eyedeelers that I've met this year and a thanks to those who've read and commented on my blogs. It's been an enjoyable season for me in spite of our results.Go you Eels.Bring on 2016.

  • If we had won 3 or 4 games we lost in the last 5 or so minutes and we could have been playing finals footy. We deadset did not have the cattle this year. We lost our best player in the off season, our under performing halfback towards the end and had numerous injuries upon injuries.

As far as I can remmeber we finish one spot below what we did last year without our champion fullback. I think that is a half decent effort. Gone are the days of 50 point floggings.

The experience we are gaining next year can not come soon enough. Players who can help us close out those 3 or 4 close games and turn them into wins.

I may be a broken record myself but what else do we have as fans if we don't have hope.

    Bring on 2016!!!!!

King Kieran is on his way!
    • Agree Luk3, but I'm not going to dwell on it right at the moment.
I'm going to look to what we can learn from this year going forward. There is some major investing in the total football operation that is about to be actioned. You will start to hear about it soon.
  • 60's thanks for your outstanding contribution to the site this year mate, all the great effort you go to to write great blogs and keep us all up to date, and your always a class act mate, looking forward to your off season reports.

    • X2
  • Right there with you Sixties !!!

I've enjoyed meeting more of the fans , fellow 1EyedEels in particular.

Sharing some food and refreshment .

    Sharing in the tribal scream.

I've enjoyed being able to help out with the Sweet P's and the Junior Sweet P's.  Especially helping out with the Juniors, I think has helped me regain an certain youthful exuberance for the game experience, seeing so many youngsters just enjoying being at the game again.

On a personal note, I've really enjoyed being able to spend time with my brother. Sharing in our common passion of the Eels. Sharing a drink pre and post match.

    It's been great.

While the matches haven't always gone our way, the passion and commitment to the jumper has really been there this year.  Let's think about it, we've had the most horrific run of injuries I can remember in all the years I have been supporting the Eels, but they have been whole hearted.

When I think of the line up that (injuries aside) will be taking the field next year ..... well, this off season can't go quick enough.

Great things to come, fellow Eels fans, great things are on their way

    • Nice one DK theres nothin better than spending time with your bro, cheers

  • Great to hear you're having a good time at the footy and catching up with new friends. The Eels really have some exciting players now like Semi, Taka, Manu, Wicks, Junior and so on, even if we're just missing out on the results.

    • GP, the club is actually preparing differently for next year. The support around the team has received extra funding (medical, coaching etc), the facilities at Saleyards will be added to during the off- season, the development pathways are being revamped, there are additions at both the NRL and second tier level. Much is being changed because this year had issues that needed fixing. It's getting done.
  • Was there today, had an amazing time. Yeah we lost, but it was great. That cheer the went on when Parra was defending their line was amazing and great. Hadn't been able to attend a game all season and finally got to go, lost but great day.
    • It is what it's about mate. Having some fun, having a yell. It was a good day (in spite of that touch judge).

"It was. Mainly because Read came off as a total fuckwit. While it's nice to see (most of) the media on our side in this case, it;s really hard not to be."
