26 years down the track and still no silverware. Players and coaches have come and gone. Supporters have arrived and some have gone. Legends were born and we watched in horror as seasons crumbled. However, for the true supporters, the blue and gold heart has remained beating. The Parramatta fans show the loyalty that many teams wish they had. They embody what it means to be a part of Parramatta. Loyalty and dedication has been needed in the long years since silverware last made it's appearance in Parramatta.
With the curtain closing on two club legends the Stadium will be painted in Blue and Gold for their final home match. The fans that turn up won't be there to celebrate premiership glory, they'll be there to celebrate the careers of some of the most respected men to have ever played the game. But what is it that drives the supporters to games? Is it the attraction of seeing Jarryd Hayne tear a team apart at will, is it seeing Hindy's shorts fall down time and time again in between every tackle, is it just simply hope? Is it the hope they will continue a winning streak, is it the hope they'll break a losing streak, is it a hope that one day they will see another premiership?
With the team underperforming it is the supporters that suffer the most. Many clubs have their plastic fans but Parra has the undying and unwavering support of the most loyal fans in the NRL. I will always look back with mixed memories to 2009. I went to a match against the Sharks and they were in the middle of a terrible losing streak. It was a cold and wet night and I was among 7,000 fans who had braved the conditions. They beat us 13-10 that night and we thought our season was over. We all know the story from there on in.
Now, whilst there are some fans on here that don't like soccer and despise it, the passion of the fans is what amazes me. On that cold, wet night in 2009, although I didn't say it out loud I sung You'll Never Walk Alone. For me Rugby League is an escape, a place where I can forget my everyday troubles and relax and watch the boys go round. It is a place where you can get lost in a world of excitement and witness some of the greatest athletes on the planet. From some of the toughest such as Ray Price and John Sattler, to the skillful orchestrators such as Sterling and Johns, rugby league has seen it all.
I'd like to finish simply by saying; MY HEART AND SOUL IS BLUE AND GOLD
