2026 Disrupter Rule - Why wasn't this a penalty to the Eels?

Why wasn't this a penatly against the Broncos last night?

The new aerial contest rules state that to catch or bat the ball back, players must use two hands. Using one hand to slap the ball down is a penatly.

In realtime it was a little difficult to judge, however the contest was sent up to the video ref as a no-try onfield decision as a knock on against Broncos.

Video ref then rules "Kotoni Staggs goes up with two hands..."

Genuine question: What defines "going up with two hands"?

  • Even more interesting is why the hell it was a knock on against us!

The bunker has simply turned into a ref decision vindication machine.

  • "goes up with two hands" (as per Bunker ref statement) does not equal "an attempt to catch using two hands".

Does anybody have the actual rule?

  • 1. The rule is dumb and incredibly vague.

    2. It's a coin toss decision

    3. According to The Bunker in this game, basically making it look like you're going to go with 2 hands is good enough.

Can't wait for this stupid rule to ruin a rep/finals game.

  • If the purpose of the rule is to not have "one hand interfering with the opposition player", it should be worded as such.
