Struggling Eels facing cleanout
The under-performing Eels are preparing for a cleanout at the end of the season after paying massive ‘overs’ to sign Raiders prop Junior Paulo for 2019.
Paulo, a Kiwi who began his career at the Eels, is all but done on a four-year deal worth over $600,000 a season - money his current club Canberra simply couldn’t match.
Already dead and buried as a finals contender, the Eels are planning for 2019 and have several other big-name targets.
But that means players will have to go, and the club is set to cut up to 10 members of its current roster to complete a makeover for next year.
A host of big names, including Kirisome Auva'a, David Gower, Jarryd Hayne, George Jennings, Cameron King, Suaia Matagi, Kaysa Pritchard, Beau Scott, Peni Terepo, Siosaia Vave and Tony Williams are off contract and many will be told they are free to leave.
The Eels are also likely to offer other players who are under contract for 2019 to rival clubs to free up more space in the salary cap.
I know its a Mole article but man I hope this happens. Cut loose the dead weight and start fresh. Hopefully Mannah is one of the players under contract for 2019 we are offering around. He and Scott both need to go with co captaincy to be handed to Gutho and Brown the true leaders in our team.
Would you keep any of the players out of the names listed? I think Williams is offering enough to show he might be worth keeping especially on such low coin. Gennings isnt the worst option as a backup winger either.

Gennings is one of the few players who can hold his head up high the last few weeks, if Mannah is still stinking up the joint next season that will do me. Beggars belief he was offered a 3 year deal last year.
I think with Mannah, he and Alvara essentially offer the same thing. We definitely don't need both and id rather see us stick with a young player in Alvaro (hopefully get him to stack on a few more kegs) as opposed to captain marshmallow Mannah
Alvaro’s stats are far greater than Mannah’s. Alvaro can play 60-80 minutes with 40+ tackles a game. Mannah plays a quarter of those minutes. I can’t believe people defend him he’s a waste of a forward spot.
100% correct brad
These need to go ...... Kirisome Auva'a, David Gower, Cameron King, Suaia Matagi, Kaysa Pritchard, Beau Scott, Peni Terepo, Siosaia Vave, Beau Scott, Tim Mannah, hoffman and Norman as starters
And Alvaro should go to second row he can't bend the line but as shown in last couple of years has great stamina maybe rest tepai for his continued hia's
tricky re norman because who do we replace him with ? is it worth keeping him to see how he performs behind a forward pack who are actually laying a platform?
Maybe Salmon will be ready next year?
Well said Pepe, Norman is not our problem but our pack is. Most of our current forwards need to go. In Eel4ever's list Ma'u, and probably Hayne if doesn't perform, needs to be added as ones to go. We need size and skill in our forwards and need to spend the money to obtain them. We also have juniors coming thru and need to give them more of a chance. Build the team around a good spine and good front row.
Todd carney will to play for a minimum contract have behavioural clause in his contracts sign him for a year or two
