Sam Williams

Anyone else heard this rumour?

I stopped in for a few beers at Westmead Tavern on Saturday and a few of the drinkers there were Parramatta supporters, they were adamant that we are chasing Sam Williams from the Raiders pretty hard.

I didn't believe it at first but then I remembered Shaun Johnson rumoured to be heading to Canberra and with Moses and Norman on the market we might need an extra half especially with the possibility of Norman playing Fullback.

I haven't seen much of Williams but from what I recall his kicking game was ok and probably a bit better tactically than Moses but his lack of creativity let him down.

Thoughts ?

  • Personally with the way next season is shaping up with players being shopped around etc. and the season nearly being labelled a write off already I would be testing the water with Dylan Brown to see whether he is our long term option for halfback.

I feel there is no better time than now to see what he has to offer, Norman has had years of opportunities and in my opinion Moses shouldn't be afforded another opportunity after failing miserably last season.

We need to planning for the future now and I feel if Brown doesn't produce any signs throughout next season it would at least give us the opportunity to find a halfback for 2020.

    • John people who are writing it off seem to be supporters only; i agree about the comments about Norman. Brown like any young player needs time.

      • I agree Brown may need time, I would however give him a chance early on in the season to see what he can deliver.

If he isn't quite up to it then it gives us an opportunity to get a halfback that can steer us around in a more composed way than what Moses does.

Maybe we chase an experienced half next year regardless? Maybe that way Brown can play 6 with less pressure on him to come up with the big plays.

        • Yes and i think they may do that with Brown; he has done v v well in flegg etc.as mentioned someone experienced with him is the key; and there seems a bit unknown at this point which is frustrating; i personally am not confident Norman will come through as he has not shown much consistency; not sure about Moses and next season will tell.

          • The thing that interests me with Norman is he is off contract at the end of this season, he might turn up and have a big season.

If that's the case I hope we don't fall into the trap of re-signing him, he might be the perfect player to have on one year contracts lol.

Thing that worries me is his off field discipline and that rubbing off onto the other players.

            • Yes that was my thinking too; but i cannot say that i trust him to be consistent; that is where we need to look at what he is worth etc. and see who has shown genuine (not manager) interest in he and also Moses.

  • You know times are tough when the calibre of player linked to your club is Sam Williams.

    • ^^^^ This.

  • I doubt it.. Raiders need to find a million to get SJ and Sam Williams would be on pennies.

Also, this is his 3rd stint at the Raiders

    and thirdly, he is crap

    • "And thirdly, he is crap"

Fits the bill perfectly. That, actually gives the rumour some legs.
