Well Brown did say for years he was over being a coach in the NRL and wanted to be a pathways type of advisor. When he came to assist Ryles it was surprising but it was mainly to assist Ryles in what to do as a head coach, be that sounding board for him. Ryles heading into year 3 might not need that anymore, leading to Brown wanting to move on.
It definitely makes sense for him to move on. Though oddly enough i would prefer him to stay and continue with the pathways with James Shepherd. Unless he is just happy moving onto other avenues in footy not involved in day in and day out coaching per se.
I do wonder who he would get if it was to happen. But sometimes it is healthy to change your coaching staff every 2-3 years or so. Not completely but one coach, maybe two at a time. Bennett used to do it a fair bit. Just getting different voices and ideas is always good to bring in.
If he is looking for a new assistant and Bellamy calls time, i wonder if he would look at say Bretnall or Hinchcliffe from Melbourne. Jason Taylor as well is not a bad shout as an attacking coach. One to look out for would be Chris Lewis. Ryles coached at Melbourne, he is currently the NSW Cup coach at Canberra.
I would like to see John Strange come in as assist. Done well at the Nrlw and has a good friendship with Ryles

Ryles is in charge of defence as well. I would say a lot of the structures that he coaches are input from Ryles. So yeah he has not done great but Ryles also works on the defence with him.
I do feel the only assistant that is 100% safe is Wisemantel.
Isn't Wisemantel in charge of attack, attacking structures etc...? That seems our main problem recently, no?
