Manly's cap crisis VS Parra

Can anyone helps as you might know the facts better than me, but when Parramatta were first raised as being over the Cap in 2016, they were only a small amount over the cap that year (as were many clubs), but Greenburg said they had to bring the undisclosed third party amounts forward into 2016 which then put Parramatta well over the cap.  And for that reason, the NRL then docked Parramatta points and then made them seek to be ‘cap’ compliant, leading to the shedding of players.

How is this different to Manly?

Greenburg has said that Manly are ‘cap’ compliant this year, but unlike in the Parramatta case, they haven’t brought forward into this season the $1.5 million of undisclosed third party payments they have ‘RORTED’ over the last 5 years.  From what I can see with dollar amounts, the Manly case is actually a much larger non-compliance if the same rules were used.  They are only cap compliant because Greenburg seems happy to ignore the $1.5m and not bring it forward to this year as they did with Parramatta, and merely fine them.

You may be able to set me straight, but I think these are the facts?

I know their investigation has been going for some time, but it also seems fishy that they would announce their findings a day after the Australian cricket team debacle.  This would take the heat out of the issue, with media swarming to cricket stories and updates.

  • I thought the same but only current players illegal payments were added to that year cap otherwise we would have been well over as well I think.  Still Dylan Walker and cherry Evans are current players but they the only 2 I have seen named.  DCE deal is over 10 years so maybe they may have added this years illegal amount only.

Either way with manly likely to appeal and the threat of evidence over Todd Greenberg involved in dodgy deals the nrl aren't showing their full hand yet.  Still lots to play out here.

  • The nrl warned them not to sign any more players lol and Pearce was warned not to go there. The whole thing is fishy. Considering it took 9 months(!!!) to come to the punishment they had Blake Green 9 months ago so they’d be over the cap.
  • Saturday's papers were reporting the NRL would announce the penalty on the Monday (before the cricket thing even happened).
  • its simple as this they are manly and we are Parramatta

  • Here they come again, Manly and Parra...
  • “It won't stick if Bob Fulton is involved. Too many friends in high places.”
