M.Jennings & The Plane.

Would like to talk about the Plane firstly. After a rough start to the year and injury I think we are seeing what Jarryd really is as a player he's not that guy he was but I can actually see a place for him going foward with this team.Last night showed with his involvement he can still have an effect on the result of a game even though it went against us last night.

Jennings to me the last month has been the disappointment he's been found out defensively on a lot of occasions and when he's had a chance to ice games for us out of the 4 times I've seen him over the line he's only scored once and hasn't had the desired effect for a player of his statue.Defensively has been the disappointing part though last year he solidified that right side but this year teams have identified that weakness and I cringe every time teams go there.

I understand he has an option but too me he's the guy that I have my eye on as a back we look to replace.

  • Really like what I see of Hayne- hope he stays

MJennings I don’t get. Most of the time he does a great job but some things are terrible.

  • Hayne was excellent tonight when he got some early ball, his defence was also very good he easily got the points tonight on a young talent like Euan Atkien.  Jennings game has fallen off a cliff, last year he was one of our best this year he has been just about our world player consistently each and every week.  If he's not bombing tries he is letting them in with dreadful defence.

    • Agree Al - spot on summation I reckon.

Hayne is a genuine elite level football player - Jennings not so much,,

  • The problem is that each week it's a different player or couple of players who stand out as being particularly bad. This week you could obviously find arguments for smith. Next week it'll be someone else. BUT it is always Jennings. He has been dreadful. It's too late now but he should have been dropped early in the season to try to kick him back into gear.
  • Hayne has had flat spots in his career before. He’s a confidence athlete Jarryd always has been. He’s played what 6 games this year? Normally he’d just be starting to hit his straps. If he can play out the rest of the season without injury and in decent form then I’d certainly be retaining him.
  • Michael Jennings is the poster boy for NOT signing older players !

His best days are far far behind him. He may produce a glimmer every now and then but thats about it.

Anyone waiting for him to be the Michael Jennings of old will be waiting a long time. Even supreme athletes like Jarryd Hayne lose it as they age.

When are we ever going to learn that youth is the key ? We have this old fashioned view that the reason that we are not closing out games is due to having a young side - its a view firmly entrenched in the 1980s.

I can see BA going out and purchasing Ferguson and the Morris Boys with the argument that we require the experience in the side when all we will get is slow old injury prone has beens, whilst the other teams pick up the likes of Dufty and Aitken because they recognise that speed and youth is the MOST important element in this game.

BA should have pulled the trigger on Michael Jennings months ago- it was quite evident that correction was required and a good coach would have been straight on to it.  If he had perhaps Michael may have done some work on his game and come back a much better player.  However , as normal,  Brad sat on his hands and did sweet FA and refused to hold the player accountable for his actions.

The result was what we now see in Michael Jennings.

This is all on Brad Arthur and is further rock solid evidence that accountability must relate to ALL players not just the chosen few.

    • When we got Jennings we needed him and he plugged the hole in our defence out wide

      • That is true but Im talking about THIS year.

His deficiencies were not addressed this year by the coaching staff.

I have no doubt that they talked to him and spoke about certain things - they may have even cuddled him a couple of times but at the end of the day, he should have been relegated to reserves.

No accountability - It should be written on BAs tombstone.

  • Very dissapointed in what we are seeing from Jennings . Watching him last night he looked like a guy who was just taking a paycheque. Their first try if anyone watches the replay he actually let them through way back down their end and then just starts walking once the play passes him , then jogs back and is pretty much only a few feet away from Duftie when he catches the ball to go through . If Jennings hadve kept chasing when he fucked up the first time he would’ve had them covered easily .

As for Hayne , he’s playing for a contract . I wonder is you’d all be singing his praises if he didn’t manage to get that ball down after ignoring an unmarked winger standing there ready to put the ball down . The glory hunter was so close to bombing that try it’s not funny .  It is good to see him putting in a bit .

    • Did you see how Hayne made a gap to get through to score that try? He almost got tackled, but his strength got him over the line. An average player would not have even positioned himself to create that gap. Hayne is starting to play like we need him to. If he can be relatively injury free and continue to build his leadership credentials he may become very valuable to Parra over the next couple of years. The ball is really in his court.

How to you fix it ? You can't, without slowing the game down so much that it becomes NFL.…"
