Is it the new training program?

It is well known that the eels have a new crew training them with new training drills and the like. Is it possible that this new style could be the difference? The reason they look tired and off kilter. Have they been worked too hard over the off season?

Like everyone, I'm very disappointed, not the team we have come to know. Hopefully the coaching staff can turn this around quick smart.

  • Cld be the plus side is I doubt they will play in heat like that again it’s rd3 now
  • With the amount of research and expertise in sports science nowadays there's absolutely zero excuse for a training plan to cause poor performance. It's a science, not an art, and the science is weighty.

This capitulation looked more mental than physical to me. No mental resilience. They just accepted the "here we go again" mentality. I thought we'd stamped that out.

    • It looked like they after many sets at them n the offloads n heat it wore them but they shld have wrapped up the ball 3 blokes on 1 n they still offloaded they were killing them there specially koriosau around the offloads he quick as
  • Looks to me they haven’t been worked enoughed.
    • Thought the same, but snake rightly replied if it was fitness why were we like that from the kick off?

      its heart and head problems.

  • Who is our defensive coach? have we replaced him?

  • it's 1000% mental. The squad actually look as fit as theyve been in a long time.

2 weeks in a row the team hasn't been mentally prepared to go for 80 mins. It was too hot for them, things weren't going their way blah blah. It's a worry at this stage of the season that these pea hearts are cocky enough to think it will get better and in the big scheme of things these games don't matter. Maybe now they'll wake up.

At this stage of the season most teams are building performances knowing that theyre not at their peak. We've got ourselves into a hole and we're almost at must win. No doubt these clowns will play with a much more spirited and energetic effort vs Cronulla, but facts are if thats not enough theyre 0-3 and in a sh!tty spot. Gotta be mentally tougher.

This squad has a history of switching off and getting ahead of themselves. Think last year when we won the first 2 games with passion and hunger then switched off and struggled to get going again when we played a depleted Gold Coast. It was even evident in the finals when we gave a great effort vs Melbourne and then played like shite as favourites the week after. I have no doubt this team came into the season thinking theyre a top 4 side that could challange at the end of year and haven't come out willing to embrace the struggle of the season. They need to realise theyre a team that won through heart and effort and weren't talented enough to pump teams coz without those things we get results like yesterday.

  • They believed in all the hype, let’s face it so did we...but they forgot the hard work part!!

its akin to someone starting out in business thinking they are on financial easy street and thinking they can make out like golf playing Japanese business men...that attitude will usually mean ending up with zilch.

I think this is the real problem...having previous little success then bang... have to learn how to sustain success and it ain’t by sitting back and watching, it’s hard work. Lazy dumbarses!

  • I think another of our issues is we had way too many players play in the World Cup for various sides and they have come into the new season flat
Same could probably be said of a number of top eight teams from last year
