St George Illawarra Dragons and NSW Blues outside back Zac Lomax has been linked with a bombshell immediate switch to a rival Sydney club.

In the wake of Taylan May being stood down by the NRL, rumours emerged on Monday that the Panthers have taken steps towards terminating his contract, per The Herald.

Contracted until the end of the 2026 NRL season, May is unlikely to feature again this year, and a rumoured termination would free up a large chunk of salary cap space for the remainder of the season.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that it wouldn't be surprising to see NSW Blues debutant Zac Lomax enter the club's radar as a potential mid-season signing.

Although he is confirmed to be leaving the Dragons for the Parramatta Eels next season, a move to Penrith could be on the cards if the Dragons are out of finals contention and are looking to free up space in their salary cap, allowing him to depart early.

It would be similar to when they signed front-rower Tevita Pangai Junior to a three-month contract after the Brisbane Broncos released him.

  • This shit shouldn't be allowed.

    • Agreed. The guy hasn't had his day in court. If he's sacked by Penrith and he's found not guilty, then what? What if he then sues Penrith for unfair dismissal?

      • He apparently is being sacked for other off field incidents

        • the guy is a walking headline.

    • With Simonsson out for the season and if this club had half a brain, they would be doing the same. Swap the Lane, Makatoa or Sivo, seeing as Ravalawa is playing in reserves.

      • Spot on Zip Zip; we seem to be often behind the 8 ball and this switch to us would make sense. Get rid of Sivo / Maka and with Simmo out this would be better

  • Nothing story and all speculation.

  • What the actual fuck. The NRL is a joke but it should help Zac develop a bit more before joining us next season.

Why don't we loan our players out as well, so they get experience due to us being out of the running. We can then front end payments to free up cap space for buying good players next year and on.

    • I wouldn't be risking injuries especially to our top 17.

      • Injury can happen anytime...is there any greater risk of injury playing for us or a team in the finals?
