              • Ploppa, going into a season a few million of talent under the cap is a fail. You're not going to win a comp end of story. Substantial Front loadings of contracts still means you're massively under strengthed from a talent perspective.

Love to hear your counter argument . Or are you just arguing for the sake of it?  Any examples you'd like to share of teams that have won comps and then been able to keep said squad and then proceeded to have a huge warchest the following season ?

You must have a couple of examples to share based on your novel you've written about how wrong I am ?

                • That's normal for Parra though isn't it.

Even when we were contenders it always felt when you looked across at the other top sides we we were behind in actual talent value.

The decision imo is where are we going to be in 3-5 years not worry about the next 2 if we have a clear cut vision here then I understand the front loading bit.

Ill continue to say this if Parra are still at the point where they have to go to market to buy there marquee talent and are still looking at bringing in your Williams types it's a lose regardless.Development and our pathways are the key they've always been the key.

Only thing is it's long game planning and it puts into perspective which Gus amongst others have always mentioned Parra aren't a development club this is what has to change if our fortunes are to change.

One of the biggest catchments in rugby league and yet hear we are a slave to the market and watching our best developed talent walk to me that's fundamentally what's wrong at Parra.

                  • That's normal for Parra though isn't it.

Hence my point as it being a massive failure, we have won nothing. Mostly due to player recruitment and retention issues. Whether that be overpaying players and having no money to recruit , or having a team that's missing talent in certain positions due to our R&R team missing their mark.

Going into a season having to pay players twice their value to ensure we've spent the cap is just burning yet another year.

                  • Coryn, that is a big statement saying "we are not a development club!"

I don't believe we have a say in it. Even if we " watching our best developed talent walk" is true, it still makes us a development club!

The reality is about the game and the continued development of it. Rugby League faces enormous challanges because of the physicality of development and effect on young people playing the game.

The administration needs clubs in the social demographic where parents are unlikely to stop their kids playing RL.....the ones that do not have that development, think quickly Perth but not PNG.

Sorry Parra has no choice but to attempt to develop their own and also provide the players for clubs that cannot.

                    • lol funnilly both clubs on the top of the table are built up of mostly imports and recruits 😂.

But Ploppas selling us the story that our R&R team that's he's pumped up for years have no choice but to hire from within due to outside influences that only our club is victim of , apparently.  Cool story though.

                    • If it's an issue for the game then why doesn't the NRL bankroll the development of juniors?

Parra definitely do have a choice ...we can just pick the eyes out of players at SG Ball level and develop them through Flegg ...pretty much what Easts do.

Who cares about under 13s etc.

                    • Wiz, you "hypobolic" mad man!

Ploppa has not pumped up our R&R team for years and really I haven't even said much about them currently, obviously they are now doing well in clear air, previosly the admin chaos of the mid 2010's onward and covid 2020 restricted that clean air.

My point and the only one is that Parramatta will always be a development club....how they recruit is always going to be subjective to needs. How good they are at it, is going to be just as subjective.

Again we see Wiz with all the critique and no solution.

Finally Badgers comments tell us something different in the world of lateral thinking! i.e. who cares about u/13's etc

Well Badger if you can't think past that comment you have nothing to offer the conversation.

Personally I care about the game and where Parra fits into it.

Both need to be going well for me to be as interested as I am.

                    • The cycle continues though right so what we have to do is identify it and retain the best of it and get the transference and the mentioned is where we are missing the mark imo.

When we are losing DB Blaise and Ethan Sanders as the latest examples if we were a development club persay we'd have talent stacked ready to go that's pretty much what happend at Riff.

What we have to do and hopefully we are is improving in the mentioned areas and continue stacking the talent. If we aren't and continue to be slaves to a market for the high tiered talent we are screwed. It just isn't a sustainable plan going foward.

                    • Dogs in particular tells you why they got in trouble in the first place the fact they had to go to market continually.

Ive said this before all Gus is doing is buying himself time to get his pathways up n going and  then they'll be going to market less and less.

The benchmark and a proof of it is Riff it took a decade but they built the most dominant team of this era through there development and pathways. That's all you need to see forget about what everyone else is doing.

The disgrace of it is they did it right under our noses and now 4 premierships later in a row going for a 5th there rubbing ours and everyone else's noses in it.

You just have to have an honest look at yourself as a club and say we've been doing it wrong how we are going about it is all and get this development and pathways back on track. We should be aiming to be better than Riff and with a state of the art facility to help with that if we aren't aiming for that we'll always be an also ran.
