WTF

This is an extract from article on nine.com.au:

The Roosters last week put in a formal submission for salary cap relief to the NRL following Cordner's brutal run with repeated concussions, with the club hoping to get $350,000 in salary cap relief.

How is that different from a player suffering a long term injury like an ACL and he's out for 12 months? What's stopping their club to apply for salary cap reflief?

    • Totally agree, Mick. The team has to pay for a player's indiscretion and he hasn't even been found guilty yet.

What is even more ridiculous is the length of time it takes for the announcement of the result of the testing of the B sample. The B sample is just the re-testing of the A sample so you think that could be done soon after the initial test. Why is the club penalised unless it's a similar situation to that of Cronulla and Essendon where coaching staff were involved? What crime has the club committed?

Does anyone know what rationale the NRL have for this policy?

        • Mick, I'm pretty sure James Segyaro had to wait about 9 months or more between his A sample and B sample results.

      • Alan I think the NRL should do the B sample at a roadside drug bus. They seem to get the answer straight away.

  • You can get salary cap relief if a player misses a certain amount of games through injury, I think it was 13 games or more, but if the roosters are choosing to sit him out even though he has the all clear to play than it should knocked back by the NRL.

      • A club can't stand down a player from rep games , it's up to the Origin or kangaroos team doctor to pass a player as fit or unfit . The rooosters publicity stated they didn't want Cordner to play Origin as they wanted him to rest but NSW selected him anyway because they don't care about a players long term health and they clearly showed this by allowing Cordner to return to the field after he was knocked out .

If Clint Gutherson had a bad shoulder and the eels didn't want him to play Origin because they wanted him to take some some time off and the eels wishes were ignored and Gutho completely fiucks his shoulder and needs a full reco should  the eels get compensated ?

If a player is not 100% fit  and has some  sort of injury that his Club is managing  fthen it should be up to that player's club if he can play rep footy because they pay their wages .

        • Good perspective Fongy.

It's happened before and will happen again.

  • Will be funny if they get it,then they also allow them to play an under age Suuali.maybe it ain't just the players receiving Brown paper bags.

  • What the NRL should be asking for is the doctors / officials and coaching staff who have allowed B Cordner to play on. That should be the NRL's inquiry and not paying them compensation. Or have I missed something? Isn't this also a duty of care issue?

  • this is totally bs from the nrl
