Has the NRL become the IPL of the footballing codes? Was this always the plan?
In September 2010 the ABC ran the following headlines “NRL TO INVESTIGATE CRICKET-STYLE MICRO BETTING"
Greenterd’s head must be spinning like a top right now. And rightly so. The culture and leadership currently in place at the NRL today is not of the fabric, nor does it have the required conviction or motivation to make the serious and courageous changes necessary to prevent the NRL from swimming with the fishes…..at least in the form that made it great over the last 100 years.
Greenterd has received some great support from the friendly press and from ex NRL legends (who work in media outlets that fund the NRL) for his strong position on declaring life bans for anyone found guilty of match fixing.
How is repeating the exact same words that David Gallop used in 2010 worthy of high praise?!!! Match Fixing = Lifeban = No Brainer!!
Why the same supposed journalists are not crying foul from the rooftops that not only has nothing changed in 6 years it has gotten a heck of a lot worse than it was when David Gallop in 2010 also threatened life bans.
http://www.news.com.au/national/two-nrl-games-in-spotlight/story-e6frfkp9-1225915564528………...Then again, where else would some of these supposed journalists paycheques be coming from without the continual scandal ridden fodder called content that is provided by the current system…….not to mention the mountain of advertising spending that the betting industry sprays like confetti!
Hopefully there are some reputable investigative journalists (Where are you Kate McClymont?) piecing together the complex myriad of financial connections just like the Crime Commission are spending loads of overtime listening to the chatter that the recent media attention has provided. Maybe they should join forces and share resources.
While it is important to note that TG did not create the problem……………
……………the current NRL leadership were selected to maintain and strengthen the status quo. TG and the rest of the NRL leadership are a fundamental part of and continuation of the problem we have today. Just like the Gang of 5 are accountable for the situation the Eels are in now. Not withstanding the fact that it did not begin with them or TG……. it was found on their watch and continued on their watch. Remember, there are even affidavits provided for court proceedings stating that TG was indeed informed of the late Ryan Tandy’s gambling problems and associations and NOTHING was done about it. TG denies this but sworn statements from 2 others including the players manager, claim otherwise. Young kids futures and lives are at stake. So, who should pay the Piper…….. because there is plenty to show that TG isn’t about to fork out any time soon?
In the words of a current well respected NRL player:
The threat isn’t going away, something Perrett made clear yesterday.
“It seems that a lot of boys are involved in it and they don’t seem to have direction and purpose and other things to tie up their time,” Perrett said.
“So they get involved in it and I don’t understand it because I haven’t experienced it myself. One thing I do know is that when you’re not occupying your mind with good, healthy things, you can get distracted by all sorts of things.”
Without an independent review and governance structure for the game, the brass like grip that both the gambling and some media institutions have over the NRL will all but ensure its eventual and gradual demise. This unholy consortium was established long ago and will only be unwound by a body and individuals not beholden to the long standing obligations this consortium has set up.
It will also require kahuna’s the size of basketballs to make the necessary and desperately needed change. If true that TG did nothing about helping a troubled player from his own club when it was brought to his attention ……… he is definitely not the man for the job!!!
The ABC’s 7.30 program on Thursday night broadcast allegations that Greenberg was alerted to a series of bets Tandy placed on NRL matches during a meeting at a Homebush cafe with the jockey manager and former Herald journalist John Schell, held four days before the Bulldogs-Cowboys game in August 2010.

This from 6 yrs ago........... I meant to include this in blog. NRL / Betting Agency / CH9-News Ltd....... a match made in heaven or at the Star Casino!!
Mr Gallop said last week after the Racing NSW High Court decision that the NRL had been "at the forefront" of "establishing the principle" that sports were entitled to compensation from agencies who bet on their events. These comments angered some powerbrokers.
One NRL chairman said yesterday: "Do you think the game can afford to turn its back on any additional revenue whatsoever? Some clubs are really bleeding out there ... some could do with that additional money right now."
You cant eliminate all corruption in the NRL all you can do is lessen it as much as possible. That's why its time for Greenberg to step down and Sepp Blatter to take over.
If you think something is rotten or corrupt it usually is. I wouldn't let these clowns wax my car.
Mate ive only just seen this blog, outstanding blog and you are right on the money again yoda.
TG seems to be at the very core of a lot of this and if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, this bloke has to many vested interests to be running the game, its a joke.
