Do you guys think Jake will one day become a franchise # 7 for any future club? I cant see it. He lacks the pace thats needed in the halves to either beat a player or attract opposition defenders to create space on his outside.
Its very bewildering that he's continually chosen in the lineup. I doubt any other club would have him in their 17. Preham and Russell have loads more ability yet are continually left out. I really think Preham has a big future and if any player should be given a shot for nrl experience its him as a utility off the bench.
This isn't about Jake. Its about investing the time and giving developing players who are genuine chances of becoming successful top line players. Its about having someone ready if one of our two off contract halves leave. If Jake isn't that player, why is the club wasting its time ?
Maybe he could one day become a ball playing lock, very doubtful with his leg speed. But as a half extremely doubtful.
This is about the club's future.

In honesty I really do not consider Jake Arthur as a legitimate number 7. In my opinion he's :
1) To slow - probably the slowest I've ever seen.
2) Too tall and lanky
3) Too predictable
4) Major defensive issues
5) Seems unfit
He's done a couple of good things and that's it. He tends to affect the whole team into 'slow mode' when he's on the field. He might be ok in reserve grade or as a backup in a lower placed or struggling team. I just don't see him as a half back.
He's not unfit , he's slow though
Maybe your right but I've seen him puffing a bit and not from smoking
Short answer is no. I mean Sterlo was slow compared to say Mortimer but he was fast between the ears and had a good short kicking game. I know Jake is only young but hasn't shown he's going to excel in those areas. I seriously think he needs to spend time in the gym and put on 15+ kgs to play in the back row if he wants to play 1st grade consistently. BA told Materson he had no future in the halves. He needs to be as honest with his own son.
Numbers I think BA needs to be honest with himself first
I reckon Sterling would still beat Jake today . Sterlo was agile and played fb in his early days. He had a quick step and fast feet.
He played fullback in a Semi (at 19) but was never a fullback, he always played 5/8 through the juniors and they really only turned him to a half in Reserve Grade too groom him for the first grade half spot.
He did switch with Paul Taylor through the premiership days as Taylor came forward in defence (and tackled everything that moved) while Sterlo rested at fullback. Taylor was never a specialist fullback either but he wore the 1.
Dyllan Brown's tackling style reminds me of Taylor......yes Brown could play any position with his defence and would not have to throw a pass and still play first grade. He would have been about 5 metres quicker than taylor over 40.
I'm afraid not even a bottom 4 side would be interested as their starting half at the level he is currently on.
I'm not sure he has the tools to get to a level where he can control a game.
Happy to be proven wrong as he will be our back up half whilst BA is here so hope there is improvement in him
Much rather JA on nothing money then Flanagan, brooks or the gold coast half.
Leave the kid alone ya fucking grub.
