He was not under contract with us when he left.
He took it to court and got some but don't think it was anything life the thief wanted.
Dogs signed him for something like $130!! No bs. Guess Joppa and dogs were counting on the court pay day. Dogs apparently paid his costs.
Still can't get my head around how the nrl allowed the gross deduction in his pay cut. One of life's nrl mysteries?
Not a subscriber so can't read it but I am sure that Max, Bernie and lawyers never confirmed anything of this settlement coming off our current cap or future caps. It is more than likely a private arrangement.
Ah sorry, I went via Google and it worked. Here's the part that matters:
The Sunday Telegraph has learnt the Eels settled with Hopoate for $370,000 after the Canterbury fullback launched legal action against the club. Hopoate was seeking almost $2 million.
His legal team served papers against the Eels last August believing the club had changed the terms and fee of a three-year deal. Hopoate was to be paid $630,000 in 2016, $660,000 in 2017 and $690,000 in 2018. He since signed a contract with Canterbury.
Parramatta administrator Max Donnelly confirmed earlier this month the club had settled with Hopoate “a couple of weeks ago”.
While the NRL’s salary cap auditors have yet to make a determination it is understood the Eels will be forced to include the payout to Hopoate in its salary cap.
Luckily for the Eels, they will be able to spread the payments out over the next three years of salary caps, meaning the six figure settlement will not have to be included in its entirety in next year’s salary cap.
Sounds interesting Captain but can't read it.The nrl change their mind then? I'm certain they ruled it would not be added to our cap some time ago.
And that made sense since he was not contracted to us.
Thanks Captain. So if that's the case 100k last and this year and balance of 170 next year.
Bummer but much much less than we would've wasted having him snailing around with us.
Dogs will resign him next year for 170k haha.
Thanks Captain - there is no NRL confirmation and with a quick look there is nothing on the net coming from the NRL stating that the $$$$ in question is coming off the cap. All we have is media speculation. Maybe someone should write to the club asking the question?
And while on the cap subject and thanks to Paul Osborne, Daniel Mortimer is still on the cap until 2025.
He is too slow. A real footballer, sure, a guy with plenty of skill, sure, but yep for some reason he is just is getting slower and slower the longer his career goes on. I wonder where his career would be at now if he continued to progress at manly instead of having two years out.
"We might well take a step back In 2027. I expect in any given year that up to half of all clubs will perform worse than the year before and up to half will perform better. Every club has a long term average for performance that correlates to their…"
"Yes we are building, that is my point, we are building but potentially we could take a step back in 2027 if our solution at 6 is a rookie with no first grade experience or very little. "

I don't recall any confirmation that the final settlement came off the cap.
I'm sure there's been some wheeling and dealing since then though so hopefully we're not carrying much if any!
