So rumours have been flying around that Canberra have offered Ricky Stuart a multi-million dollar deal. Supposedly it’s $7million over seven seasons.
I believe it would be fair to say that a seven year deal in rugby league is ludicrous to say the least. No player or coach signs a deal for seven years, it’s simply too long in professional sport.
Canberra have not confirmed that they have offered him a contract and Parramatta chairman, Steve Sharp, has said no offer has been received, nor has Stuart talked to him about it.
The main reason Stuart has been drawn into this is due to his connection with Canberra. He represented the club in the 80′s and 90′s and is one of Canberra’s favourite sons, leading them to multiple premierships when Tim Sheens was at the helm.
Parramatta’s co-captain, Jarryd Hayne, has stated that Stuart assured the playing group that he will finish what he started at Parramatta.
“Ricky spoke to us the other day … he pulled us aside and assured us that what he started here is something he wants to keep going and he wants to finish.” Said Hayne in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald.
Stuart is said to have a good relationship with his players at Parramatta and will be determined to complete what he set-out to do.
No source of substance has stated that Stuart is leaving Parramatta or that he has even been tabled an offer from Canberra. So far it has mainly been hearsay and rumours.
Stuart does not seem to be a coach who would leave a job half-done and given he has marched 12 players and recruited nearly half a dozen to the embattled Eels it would be unlikely he would walk away from them.

I think he wants to leave but does not want to look bad. I would be betting on him leaving if the raiders want him.
Steve Sharp that the club wouldn't stand in his way if Stuart wanted to take up an offer from the Raiders have only confused the situation.
Sin Bin has been told Stuart received an informal approach from Canberra last week
Sin Bin was even told players in the club's junior representative teams want out because of what is happening at the top. Jason Taylor, Neil Henry and Mick Potter

With all the dramas at Canberra he would only be going backwards whereas he has laid some sort of foundation this yr at the eels..
My bet is he'll stay, the Eels need to review him again mid next season...
I think he's brought well considering what is out there available, the younger players that made debuts this year will improve, if we don't have too many injuries I'm sure we can push for top 8 next year. Buy a few more players next year for 2015 an push for top 4 an a premiership..
Keep in mind that if parra do start improving they will extent an increase his contract so he won't be any worse off with us given that the eels improve...
Eel for life :)
You are dead set kidding yourself. Besides I saw and heard Sharp say he WAS AWARE of an offer on the table. It was after this Canberra Camelot going out of their way to deny it, they knew its not a good look for them.
The more this board crap is going on and being publicised in the media the more likely he will dog us. Its not looking good, face reality.
The silence from Sharp and Stuart last few days is doing my head in. They need to keep us fans in the know of what is going on. Its appalling to dragthis out. We need something to be done sooner rather than later.
They will hit us up for re-newal of season tickets shortly, then probably make an announcement after that. If I don't know what future holds, well "I'm out, are you". After 12 years of season tickets I will tell them to wipe their asses with mine unless they can tell me what future holds.
The question can he coach? Maybe that question should also be pointed at the numerous coaches that have filed through the revolving door at the club?
Their demise is not unlike RS situation currently!
Can so many coaches not Coach?
The Board want Ricky to stay, why can't he just reassure them that he is staying 100%? What's the problem Ricky?

I honestly think RS is trying to prove a point to the Parra board. I feel he is giving them an ultimatum....either BUTT out and sort out the crap or he will walk. The board would’ve thought there’s no way in RS will leave an 850K salary, and a first grade NRL coaching position. However, now there is another position available at his former club and the carrot to leave is enticing. Hence, no comment from the board and no comment from RS. It is all about having power and the biggest ego! FFS just decide, either way and let’s move on!
I beleive that Ricky Stuart is a man that will honour his contract. People crucified Ricky for telling certain players earlier in the year that they were no longer required. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, the eels at this stage were going nowhere and the players that were given the tap on the shoulder were not performing and had not over a long period of time. These players were also told this so they had time to secure another contract before the pre -season begins at rival clubs. I believe that at this time next year RS will still be at the EELS and we will be a much stronger club than we currently are. RS is not a quitter and either are the EELS players and EELS supporters. Stay strong all you EELS supporters we will be back in 2014.
