Why didn't we go after Vaughan or Mclean?

It's painfully obvious that Mannah and Matagi aren't good enough to be our 2 main props. We're getting killed through the middle third of the field every week and when you throw in the small statured Pritchard we lose all ruck control. Why did we recruit Matagi when Vaughan was on the market? I know the Dragons paid overs for him but did we even try? What about Mclean? Did we show interest in him before the Cowboys signed him? Our 8, 9, and 10 are by far our weakest players and for the sake of his job I hope BA has some players in mind in who he wants to bring into the team because if these three are our mainstays moving into next year then we're no chance of making the finals. We're physically just not strong enough.

  • I wonder why we never went after Keary as well
  • It's all about building a money ball team.
    • Moneyball is a joke, BA is deluded if he thinks that rubbish works in the NRL.

  • Couldn't agree more. Imagine Vaughan and McLean starting. We need this badly. We are getting hammered.
  • Because we don't want to pay for anyone.  Vaughan is EXACTLY the kind of forward we need.   We seem to love snapping up failures on the cheap from other Clubs and then act surprised when they don't aim up.

  • I agree that Vaughan would be a great asset to the side. Perhaps though Brad Arthur has other players in mind.
  • we should of bought the out of favour forward from canberra when they bought Paulo. their forwards were amazing before junior.
    who was out of favour???
    Vaughn?? Boyd???
I would of been happy with either of them.
  • I would imagine recruiting in 2016 would have been almost impossible though. But not anymore. We have stability and cash to burn. We must be active in recruiting and fix up our weak positions.
    • Foran left early enough. We could have acted sooner knowing there would be a good amount of cap space.

  • I believe Brad overvalued the new limited Interchange rules along with other additional rules to speed up the game, and went too small, as he thought mobility would win - he was wrong.
Oppositions are running riot through our smaller middle rotation and continually killing us in the ruck.

So much needs to go right for us to win at the moment, and it won't be fixed until we buy a couple of spearhead props - who aren't even on the market.

BA will live and die with these decisions. I have no doubt we could have kept Jnr Paulo.
