•  Tpa's + Money earnt by acquiring new sponsorship, could be the difference between being a successful NRL club and an also ran . It's absolutely paramount that Parramatta gets it's house in order culture wise, and rid the club of the main players who've thrashed the reputation of this club. Edwards was overdue for his sacking and others definitely are in the same boat.

We, the fans are sick of hearing the club's name tarnished  in the media.

THE fallout from Canterbury’s disastrous Mad Monday celebrations has continued with a second sponsor dropping the NRL club.

Shorts sponsor Wicked Sister Desserts on Wednesday said it had terminated its agreement reportedly worth $350,000 over the incident and the Bulldogs’ handling of it.

In a significant financial blow, it comes four weeks after major sponsor Jaycar ended its 10-year association with the club and pulled its back-of-shirt sponsorship worth $500,000.

“Today we informed the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs that Wicked Sister Desserts will be terminating its sponsorship of the club effective immediately,” the company said in a statement.

“Wicked Sister Desserts is a family-owned business and we share the same family values as our customers. What has occurred is completely unacceptable.

“We do not in any way condone the behaviour and nor do we support the response by the leadership of the club in the way they have handled this matter.

“We accept that there will be some who criticise our company for taking this decision but our company and brand stand for certain values and behaviours, and we expect the same levels of decency and respect from those we align ourselves with.”

The Bulldogs were slugged with a $250,000 fine by the NRL, however that amount was halved after the club issued their response to the governing body’s breach notice.

Adam Elliott and Asipeli Fine were fined $25,000 by the club ($10,000 suspended) and charged with wilful exposure after being photographed naked at the Harbour View Hotel in Sydney’s The Rocks during post-season celebrations.

The pair will appear in court on October 24.

Marcelo Montoya and Zac Woolford were also fined $10,000 ($5,000 suspended).

The NRL came down hard on the club because several senior officials including coach Dean Pay and football manager Gareth Holmes were present at the function.

  • I think you need a spell check on the title Chief

    • Samsung's predictive text

      • Bullshit , Samsung’s aren’t advanced enough to have predictive text .

      • Yeah i have been having alot of problems with that since their last update

  • I was surprised when Greenberg came down hard on Canterbury over that Mad Monday incident given that Canterbury seemly was treated by a "whipping by a feather" for incidents prior to that. However, I was not surprised when the amounts were halved--after all it was Canterbury was it not.? One Canterbury official was highly critical of the NRL for  the penalty given to Canterbury explaining that the NRL was hypocritical because it sponsored a float in the homosexual Mar di Grars.

I did not see the relevance of his comparison other than that there was plenty of flesh on show in both events!  Green berg`s initial response was the usual headline grabbing attempt and was always going to be attenuated. The Wicked Sister response

is interesting because it blames the players and the officials of Canterbury and, by association, the response of the NRL, hence Greenberg, to that turgid affaire.

  • Sometimes sponsors want to break contracts. Maybe they realised they can't afford it, or it wasn't providing value for money for them, or they had a change of staff or just got bored with it and wanted out. Take your pick. I'll guarantee the real reason had nothing whatsoever to do with Mad Monday.

    • ^^ spot on. If a deal is working for the sponsor they stay, simple as that.

  • Spot on chief, excellent point.

    • You have a very strange personality pops. You invariably connect every situation the club finds itself in to what the individuals on this site have to say. You seem to exhibit extreme sensitivity towards persons who don't agree with your point of view.

You will need to separate the decisions the club has made for itself from the commentary on this site. Most of the people here want what's best for this club, but unlike yourself not everyone is a yes man .
  • Culture is just the latest little fad to try and describe success but has been proven false at every club or team which is referred to as having great culture.
The issue is people mix up success and culture and have different interpretations.
The argument of culture is often bought up after off field indescetions as is the case with Chief using examples of bad behaviour instead of poor results to point to bad culture.

Even the all blacks have had scandals despite claims to have the greatest team culture in sport today. I even saw US television program commending the all blacks culture so it isn't something isolated to league and Australia.
Another example I would like to use is the qld state of origin team. Huge success and supposedly great culture led by untouchables in Smith, Cronk, JT and Slater.
The problem is half the team disobeyed direct rule to not go out from hotel 1 year while in camp.
It can be dismissed as a 1 off but a couple players also had issues throughout the years at their clubs before or after origin periods. There will be people who say but they werent with the origin team at the time so it wasn't responsible for the culture or behaviour at that time despite meninga claiming then as he has now with Australian team that character of player even outside of representative periods counts.

In that case when a player at eels or another club gets into trouble while drinking with other friends outside of the team is that due to parramatta poor culture or possible cause they are a d#ckhead or hang with d#ckhead mates who encourage such behaviour.
In that instance the bulldogs poor culture can not be questioned as their issue was at a club function. The cases Chief listed in previous blog included a player or 2 stuff ing up off field in their own time away from the club. Say we dropped Norman or Edwards, another club picks them up, as is always the case regardless of previous scandals and he kills it. The same people claiming culture issues will say why did we release our best player for another club to sign on the cheap. Todd Carney got a dally m after huge scandals including being barred from the town of goulburn and Hayne won his first dally m after scandal of being shot at.
Our club has actually turned around a number of players with previous issues with great success including Mau and Wicks who were both signed after jail stints and if we signed Packer for next year would people be upset
