Who would you support with a TPA

With all these great talk being raised about the coterie I'd like to pick up on a few of the boys talk in the cupboard about who would you support with a tpa?I think the money shouldn't got to a tier 1 player and for mine I'd like to see it used as en encouragement offer for a fringe player or someone with heart who bleeds blue and gold yet may not be on the best coin. The first player that springs to mind last year is our very own brick with eyes - Danny wicksThe bloke had a break out year for us and whilst there were other guys who may have done more - this guys was on a minimal one yr contract - to me he gave us some of tablets player player value we got from anyone in the top 25Who do you think and why?

  • These god damn pain meds..... I can't type...
  • Last line - wicks gave us "some of the best player value"
  • The polar bear, Daniel Alvaro. One of the best rookie props going around. Really played with some pride and passion in his stints this season. His game against Canberra was one of the best I've seen from an interchange prop and his try was one where he was determined not to be stopped.

    • I agree. Although he might not be the most supremely talented player in the group, his determination and attitude make him stand out for me.

  • No no no no no! Lol. The reason or my logic behind a supporter funded tpa isn't for those toilers or up and comers its to compete with the clubs who are richer in that respect. Clubs don't sit there and offer untested rookies or workhorses tpas they use it to keep their guns. The tpa should be used to keep a player we can't afford to lose...
    • No, but it will help in a round-about way. If you provide a TPA at the lower-end of the player roster it frees up other TPAs for your higher-profiles. It shouldn't be that difficult to organise TPAs for a player like Kieran Foran. He's the type of player pretty much any brand would see benefit in associating them with. With all due respect to Wicksy, who has proved himself to be a champion bloke as well as an exceptional player, maybe his past troubles might make a company less willing to invest in him on a TPA basis, and for me that's a great example of where a supporter-based TPA would truly fill a gap.

    • Hmmm interesting point phil and the supporter based tpais a great idea. I'm not a member as I live over three hours away from Sydney so buying membership for me is a bit of a rip. This idea on the other hand gives me chance to help. I think though the tpa shouldn't go to a fan favourite like wicks as this is not smart business wise. As great as his story is we are not really at risk of losing him. It's not like clubs are clamouring to sign him This is where I think parra falls behind. We are not ruthless enough. There a lot of people here who don't like hayne however if the difference between him staying and leaving was a an extra tpa from the fans he may not get it due to sentimentality from fans for someone like wicks.. As harsh as it sounds football is a business and the top clubs run it that way. We are falling behind because we have too many morals or ethics. As bad as it sounds I think our club can be great people and lose or ruthless and win...Just my op
    • Actually by giving an up and comer say $30k in TPA (which a club can't guarantee), you are freeing up $30k of the clubs money to be spent on a top player who may not have the ability to attract TPA's and also may want guaranteed money instead.

For example, someone like Junior or Wicks.

    • The problem I see here is that the TPA cannot be conditional on the player signing for a certain club. If you offer it to a player who may be leaving, theoretically he will still be entitled to it after he leaves.
  • Read my mind too
I thought Wicks tried his guts out whenever he got the chance
I think his comeback story is great
