Who is our wrestling coach?

We need to go back to a few basics in 2011. And the wrestle is just one of a few.

The past 4 premierships have gone to Manly and Melb, who are the best in the business when it comes to the wrestle.

  • I'd much rather the Eels don't partake in or learn any form of wrestling activity that would transcend onto the field, as to not concede any penalties at crucial times during games as a result.
  • umm Ricky i think its part of the game these days. i am sure each club has a specialist person to teach the players how to wrestle.

i just love the way Melb do it, and lately the way the dragons do it without conceeding penalties. Its no wonder why they are on top, n have u noticed how each player knows exactly how long they have in the tackle with the dragons.
  • You raise a good point Buzz, when you watch an Eels game it always appears that the opposition always manage to hold our players down for an age and yet when we have the ball we are constantly beaten off the ground by the defenders.
  • I know it's a part of the game these days, but the thing that irks me about it, as I said before, is that if we're leading by less than 6, or we have the chance to score the winning points somehow, and all of a sudden, a player from the Eels is penalised for engaging in some form of wrestling tackle, move or whatever, then I an not going to be a happy camper.

I understand that is all to do with slowing the play-the-ball down, but 9 times out of 10, in all the instances that we see, they hold on to long, and it should really be a penalty.
  • yes, and then we will stop waltzing with the opponents....disgraceful.
  • Swap peter sharp 4 Mario Milano.........
  • I know the panthers use a guy called brad morris who is a MMA fighter. When you watch us play this year, the players (tim mannah the exception) didn't really try to hard to get up and play the ball. I just think that this is another example of the poor attitude that the eels have had this year. The control of the ruck is very important in the game at the moment and I dont think we are up to scratch.
  • i would like to see our players coached on the importance of the quick play the ball. Tim Mannah is the only one i see attempting to push the fast play the ball. if our guys are fighting harder to get up quick and the opposition is wrestling us, we are more likely to pick up penalties. The forwards should look at some footage of Glenn Lazarus
  • i think we hired the red wiggle as the wrestling coach this year, and for next year i believe its the original cast of hi-5
  • The Te Huna bros train the EELS in wrestling. James TeHuna is a fighter in the UFC.

"I will be honest I don't know much about the other clubs to comment about any possible availability issues. But I agree it still hasn't been good enough for a couple games. We won comfortably last week with a similar lineup. "
