Where does Burt fit ?

Firstly I have been a massive Burt fan for years. However we now have a better fullback in Hayne, as good goal kicker in Sandow and two wingers oozing with raw talent in Kenny and Blair. Where does that leave Burt ?Lets face it, we are not going to win the comp this year so we may as well let the future wingers gain valuable experience. It pains me to say it but it might be best for the team to phase Burt out of first grade this year.Thoughts ?

you move Blair to centre and drop Esi or Morgan. Burt keeps wing spot. Simple as that.

Yeah great, get rid of one of the best creative thinkers in the game and best supporters just as we realise we are struggling to score points. Not to mention he's Hindys best mate, brings in numerous sponsors, is a fan favourite and we're one game into the season of what is probably his last year. That wouldn't destabilise the team would it?

More so there was no chance you would have seen him drop 2 bombs and let another bounce like we saw Sio do last night. Let the bloke go out in his own glory and get off this true legends back.

  Being mates or bringing sponsors does not cut it. That's why I love sport,it's based on what your ability is and your potental, not how well your connected or who your best mate is.
  
  For the future of the Eels I think we are better off developing the next Gen. So we leave Burt another year and we gotta blood a winger next year, what's the point in that ?

my thinking is based on more than last night, I still think he can be great and an asset but in the modern game wingers need to be tall and powerful, 2 things Burt is not. Who would you prefer to be going up for cross field kicks in both attack and defence, Blair and Sio or Burt?

  The best winger Parra have atm under the highball cannot even get a look into the FG side because we MUST have Parra juniors coming through the ranks.

  Manly won the comp with Robertson on the wing, Storm were minor premiers with Anthony Quinn. St George and New Zealand have done rather well with Jason Nightingale.
  
  Plenty of other teams have smaller wingers.

    Quinn's not exactly small. I'd have used Turner as an example. But you're right, all of those players didn't have the size of Yow-Yeh or Inglis but they made up for it either through the speed heart or brain. As the great Jack Gibson said about Peter Sterling "He's quick between the ears." This applies to Burt. He's probably quicker than Sterling in terms of running but he's got a fantastic footballing brain and is a dependable player who will do what's best for the team.
