What's with Jarryd Hayne?

Ok, JH is without a doubt one of the most gifted Rugby League players ever to strap on a boot, but is he becoming more of a pain than a plane? As a captain, he should have been there yesterday, a good leader doesn't decide he's a bit tired and leave the battle to his troops! Plenty of other origin players backed up.Even if he took a low profile in the game, just being there would have been a good example to the young guys in the team.I'm wondering if Haynes untouchable status and fairy princess attitude is more of a detriment to the camaraderie of the team than his skills outweigh as an asset? It would be hard to get motivated to put in when your captain is relaxing in Australia enjoying his fat origin pay check, while you sit on a plane for hours, and play in that cold little country over the pond. Especially when you know that other teams captains an marquee players are putting in and backing. Not very inspiring.Hayne is brilliant, but can't win the comp on his own ...

  • Enough of these Hayne blogs.. seriously. He wanted to play. The coach said no. End of story. This blog should be sent to trash.

  • It wasnt his choice man. Geez layoff
  • I'm more disgusted with Hayne wanted to, and played all origin games injured Arthur said OK!
  • Coach said no?? Ok there goes the idea Hayne gets what Hayne wants.. Better send this to trash blogs..

I guess the coach must have told him not to attend the game to support his team mates as their captain too..

I wonder if Gallen ( who did twice as much work in SOO3) will back up?
  • Two plane trips? No way, that is not being rested.

  • Ross, U have pretty well summed it up.

    A great talent & a lousy leader.

It is a real quirk for Parra. The best player in the team is the most talented, so much so it seems that the whole club revolves around him & that the team has in essence probably become a one man show.

If Hayne fires up then the team has a chance of putting in a credible performance but if he doesn't perform, the team seems to dissipate.

Some fans will keep making excuses for Petal but the fact is most other SOO players backed up for their clubs & I just couldn't imagine Gallen, Cam Smith or JT not insisting to be on the Park with their team mates.

Yep, IMO a great talent but a lousy leader.

    • Bit tough Michael. Not Hayne's fault the other players rely on him so much. Not his fault they gave him the co-captaincy along with Mannah who should not have the job either. Not his fault BA told him he was not playing. To his credit, Hayne has put most of his prima-donna ways behind him. Jarryd's alright, bro.

  • Blah blah blah another
    Hayne blog. Zzzzzzz.
  • Not suggesting he is at fault that the team relies on him so much Bernie, just stating an impression that the team does.

I agree that neither Hayne or Timmy r captain material & I did not intent to belittle Haynes talent on the park. Yes, they r probably both very nice guys but my comment referred to Hayne's leadership qualities which IMO r negligible.

Yes BA decided for Hayne to sit out the Warriors match when he made the team selections but the point I & some other fans were making is that the various Club Skippers that played SOO generally backed up & I think that if a coach suggested that they stand down, IMO most would have insisted to take to the paddock with their team mates.

Hayne has matured a lot this season but the way this selection was played out does not look good to a lot of fans & possibly sends the wrong message to his team mates.

The end result being Hayne the team skipper, sitting at home resting on R&R whilst his team gets belted.

    • Yes and the fact he couldn't even be bothered to make the trip highlights a lot of what you just highlighted Mick.
Perceptions are more important than what's read or said and unfortunately Hayne needs to address these perceptions by showing us the fans and his team mates that he has the commitment shown by other REAL leaders.
