What's changed over the past few weeks?

We lost 4 in a row and looked disinterested and lethargic. Now we are winning and this last game we appeared to have energy to burn right to the end. Finishing a game with 12 men.So what's the change? Is it confidence from winning? Is it match fitness? Is it a few different players in a few positions? Is it a better bench rotation?Or is it something else.I'd be interested in people thoughts but to me it seems like the forwards have much more energy during the match. Is the Cougar reading blogs here or has he been demoted?

  • Arthur has employed a more direct style, getting out of our danger zone, with now minimal offloading, less risk plays, getting to our kicks.

Gutherson is much better with his goal line defence at the back, and has great vision linking up with his outside backs. Deserves to keep the #1 jumper - must.

There's also a better/tougher attitude - after a tumultuous 2016 and a good start, the team relaxed thinking things were going to be easygoing.
    • Chief remember last year we were both in the minority of people that could see the potential in Guth? Now look in could nearly run for PM. I think BA has used our out side backs around the rucks a lot better instead of trying to blast the opposition with our forwards all of the time.
    • Gutherson must - stay at fullback. He deserves it after being pulled from five-eighth.
I definitely think this was Arthur's plan and Gutherson has excelled with minimal time to.
  • Ken Edwards... his hype around the players is sensational... lifts the team
    • Yep, my thoughts exactly.
Kenny needs to watch his discipline because we need him on the field. He brings the boys together and celebrates opponents failures. It must be infectious and he is a confident player.
    • 100%
  • Great question.

Firstly I guess there is no doubt we met teams at good times over the past three weeks. Tigers have their issues, panthers didn't get out of second gear and cowboys obviously have some injuries. But then you'd be forgetting we met titans at an even better time, they had major injury issues and we still lost so that argument is out the window some what.

In terms of statistics, in the 4 loses our opposition sides completed at 78% and in our run of 3 wins they dropped to an average of 70%. But statistics don't always tell the story and can be manipulated to prove any point. For instance in the same run our our completions have actually stayed the same, at around 75% across the 4 loses and 3 wins.

My answer/guess is Corey Norman I realise he only missed one of our run of loses but even upon his return he didn't seem like himself and maybe he was playing a bit tentatively due to his injury still playing on his mind.

Your first point about confidence from winning is probably true too. Momentum in sport, especially team sports is historically a huge factor.
    • Interesting about the completion rate staying the same.

I have noticed less tired forwards during the game. Norman has definitely gone up a gear or two and Kenny has always had an impact, a bit like Wicks. I've said before that those two where the glue that holds the team together.

Regardless of the opposition, there are noticeable differences to then and now.
  • The main thing is we have played 3 very shit teams.

    • I don't agree with that. Regardless of win or loss, they have looked like two different teams.
