What really annoys me is when a player is trying to clear the ruck and the tackled player is trying to rise and they get tangled up. Often the tackler is on the back of the tackled player and cannot get off as he is rising. The ref then blows penalty often after they have finally cleared the ruck. For Pete's sake refs, use common sense, they was no deliberate slowing down of the ruck.
What is your peeve with refs?

I hate watching something being penalised in one game and not in another. It just gives the conspiracy theorist more ammunition.
Glenn, I hate the modern ruck area as there is too much going on especially with the amount of tacklers that involved along with the attacking teams pushers who come up & keep pushing their players forward. Some times I have seen 4 defenders, the ball carrier & 2 attacking players pushing their player forward. Ref calls out Held Held & then a penalty. Its crap.
Then there are the ball carriers who hit the deck & carry on as if they are are on an electrified trampoline, with someone having a hand on their back. The push play the ball, where the player lungs forward into the defending side, supposed to be illegal but some get away with it. Then there are the markers who push the player back as he tries to play the ball, which is a penalty but not always given, same at the push forward. There's not supposed to be any contact between the players in the play the ball area, its nothing but a dogs breakfast.
I am waiting to see a player who is not fast enough in getting out of the area really getting a serious injury with the amount of players kicking out with one foot of both feet & nearly getting others in the head. Years back & I am fairly sure I saw Graham Olling cop one of those kicks to the head & he was lucky that there was no serious injury.
The big problem today is the call for the game to be faster, every area has the desire to be sped up, reason why the scrums are crap, either make them contestable again or simply play the ball 5 - 10 metres in from the sideline for kicks, & hand the ball over to the opposition when a knock happens.
Stripping the ball pisses me off. It is up to the ball runner to control possession of the ball. That way there is none of this controversy with hands on ball, strip, one on one, was it dropped, was it stripped?
EE true but! There are too many of the strips that are deliberate no matter how much ball security is had by the player with the ball, there are opposition players who are adept at punching the ball out with quick moves, these days the old Langer tricks & reasons behind the steal issue is worse, most happens when there are multiple players in the tackles, meaning the ball carrier has all but no chance to keep hold.
All thats needed & I see it happen is one defending player pulling down at the upper arm of the carrier getting the ball of the attackers chest, a quick tap by another defender & the balls out, deliberate & cunning plays.
Some of the plays last night & Thursday had 4 & 5 defenders in the tackles, a couple of pushers as well. Often means that neither team really gain an advantage
Protect the ball properly and that will not happen. The current rule is so open to incorrect rulings it is crazy!
EE, the theory is right, but when you see players who have good ball security also coughing up a ball, it makes me seriously look at the replays, especially when the view is zoomed in, & what I mentioned above with the pulling at the arm, brings the ball away from the chest, then a hit at the ball it comes loose.
These are not one on one strips which are legal, & they certainly show up a player & his so called handling skills. when the same player is confronted by multi tacklers it becomes another matter, in saying that the player has to be very much on guard to try & ensure he has the ball under control
