Hi,

We've all seen the 2 Jarryds. The one that is totally focussed and determined, and the one that is far from being a bad player, but certainly a little quieter.

Whenever he took the ball up for NSW tonight, he had a different look about him than what we see alot of the time at Parra. He looked hungry, as he does in most Origin matches. At Parra, we have seen this Jarryd on a consistent basis at the start of his career and during 09.

We all know it's impossible for a player to maintain top form over an entire career. But what is it that turns him into one of the best players we've ever seen, or conversely, what causes his killer instinct to go astray?  Is it a simple case of him benefitting from a forward pack moving forward which he has lacked at Parra alot of the time, or is there something a little deeper?

Please explain.

  • Until last night I wasn't someone who said that Hayne played with more passion in Origin necessarily, I just thought maybe he was on the end of a better backline etc.

However watching him play fullback I have to say he did little things that he doesn't do at club level like play the ball a little quicker and make that second effort in the tackle to kick free, little things like that which I think he should think about bringing into his club footy.

  • I think it's the players around him and the coach that effects his game. Under stuart he's been very good for the eels and surrounded by good players he's was great for nsw.
  • IMO we saw a great display of Hayne playing a well balanced FB game. Great control. great timing & intense focus. Scored a try, saved a try & became involved at the right time when either needed or opportune & importantly played as a team player. U could ask no more. He also appears to be developing an understanding & trust with the other Blues players.

IMO he really just does not have the level of support around him at Parra. I used to think that he was a full of himself but this year he appears to have matured so much. Even when playing for the B&G he is now showing consistent commitment & when u consider the appalling lack of commitment by a lot of his teammates recently, he has not thrown the towel in. That alone speaks volumes about his character.

  • we at parra need to build a team around hayne....get rid of all the deadwood .......imagine hayne at any of the top six clubs !!!!! he would be a dally m winner every year

    • x2 Mr Jellyeel, he has been playing with gumbies for so long when he plays for NSW it must be like a holiday for him. If we can get a decent team around him he will finally again get the chance to show us how good he really is.

    • x3 at any other club with a decent roster he would be seen as one of the all time greats
  • I'm sorry but jarryd does this and more at parra but because of the quality around him you don't see the results. He has won so many penalties at the play the ball, i would love to see stats who has won most penalties for parra and would be shocked if he isnt at the top of the list.
The try to Boyd was the only blemish on his game as he jogged across the park and we have also seen this at parra for several seasons, slater inglis Stewart would have been sprinting across and at least have attempted to tackle Boyd. If he can fix that part of his game he would be nsw fullback every game without any challenges and possibly Australian fullback.
    • Hi Xman, true but he still had a great game.

    • LOL your not one of those guys that hold the fullback accountable for every try the opposition scores? deadest NSW missed 4 tackles on there left where Hayne was, then QLD shifted by quick long passes, Hayne had literally no chance at stopping that try.

    • Wasn't this just after he tackled Slater which stopped a certain try?
