    • I think Ryles rewards a hard working ethic above everything else. A player that is committed to training, the cause and the culture.
We will need to see how Kelly goes up against such values.

Round 1 2025 I was not a fan of Russell.
His continual improvement across the year had me respecting him more and eating some of my words.

In saying this I am all for an electric backline with a dynamic that has the opposition playing catch up.

Russell was safe and still got a bit out of JAC outside him. Let's see if Kelly can get more out of JAC. I'd start Kelly.

      • But, HH, there is that Russell chip and chase try vs Broncos that will forever dog any reference to Russell not being a dynamic attacker!

        • We will need one of those a game from Russell, Prof. Daz 🤣🤣🤣

          • The irony of Russell leaving, HH, is that JAC has been improving Russell's pass timing to his winger and now Russell takes that developed skill to Perth!

            • Simonsson looks like the one to be left out to me. I am sure with injuries "but" he will be a good back up, I have always regarded Simmo as a better centre than a winger (haven't we BEM).

Being a contrarian, which I do not believe Ryles is, I will step away from what I think will happen as against what I would have. By explanation I believe that centre predominately in the modern game is primarily defensive and of course any attack on top of that makes for completeness. The captain off the dogs being a perfect example. If he plays the dogs don't get defensively destroyed, he misses through injury which happened late last season, they were a different side without him.

This means to me that Russell is the first centre picked, he destroyed his Bronco opposite ( Aust rep) last time we played them. Kelly is number 2, given that I think he will show up well under the system's devised for him. Now that leaves Penisini, who will most probably get the Ist pick and Russell goes to the wing BUT I would pick Penisini on the wing, Why? because I think he can be effective like Penrith's International winger, similar build, not overly quick but so dangerous from within 30 metres of the line in a one on one position, yes he would be a finisher where as a centre he has positional lapses defensively. He is very strong which is one of the reasons I like the idea of him on the wing.

Question mark under the high ball, but they all have that! All he has to do is watch some film of the Penrith winger and learn to position himself accordingly.I also noticed that Ryles has the backline 3/4's and fullbacks all doing a lot of extra work under the high ball in their preseason training.

I am sure the Penisini suggestion will cop some criticism but rather than double guess the decision they will probably make, I throw it in as a discussion.

            • he was still shit at the tap and pass.

              • context Adnan....not sure what you mean and how it fits the discussion.

        • Daz, are we able to consider that fantastic chip and chase , regather and score, whilst awesome and deserves its own highlight reel, are we able to consider it, dare i say a fluke. I'm leaning more towards he has had his 15 minutes of fame. A great 15 minutes by any measure, but still we need a lot of repeats like that from him.

"Thanks for that Ian, Hambly was one tough Hombre let me tell you. The amazing part of that story was Chalky Barnes (a very slight man) got up and finished the game.....rumer has it that his body imprint was still in the ground after the game LOL"

"Wasn't there for 'Hambly steam rolling Barnes' but my father always talked about what a great player Hambley was. I am not too far behind you though, Poppa, my first memories of Eels start in the early 70s at Cumberland Oval"
