We were setup!!! Theory or Truth???

Before i start i just wanna say that this is my theory on what happened!!From day one Ricky really didnt want the coaching gig at Parra, his eyes were on the Raiders job.But you see how could the board at Canberra justify the sacking of Dave Furner when he'd just madethe semi-finals, what would his brother have said and done when told he needed to give the bad news to his brother, no win situation. One or more of the board members who pushed Stuart name to coach rang Ricky and explained the predicament their in and tell him to bide his time hopin that next season Coach Furner fails then we have reason to sack him.Stuart agrees then signs on with Parra for 3yrs just in case Canberra do a houdini and make another semi final, but in Stuarts contract he tells Parra he wants to put a clause in 'to be able to leave whenever he wants', not many good coaches around, Parra agree to this clause. Ricky from day one parra werent goin to make top 8, he knew his roster so there was no chance parra making Top 8 and Ricky being stuck on staying or leaving.Fast forward Canberra started to implode players sacked, missed semis, coach sacked, Ricky recieved a call from a board member guaranting the Canberra job to him, he hadnt signed anything didnt want to be seen as a person you cant trust. But he trusted the board member and with the get out clause he had put into his contract at parra, he was gone.Basically Ricky knew he had the job once Furner got sacked, he knew he wouldnt be at Parra next year!!Im sure he still coached parra with all his efforts and knowledge, but still knew at the back of his mind he wouldnt be at Parra next year!!

  • 1 thing wrong, "Im sure he still coached parra with all his efforts and knowledge"  he sat on his ass all year getting paid for nothing, he stated the playing roster was too crap to do anything with, to justify doing nothing.

    • Mate the thing that gets me is Ricky asked for a extension and Sharp and the board were thinking bout agreeing to it...
Fuk they must be deaf and blind.
  • If he really wanted to coach Canberra he should have bided his time and continued on as NSW coach not taken the Parra gig.
    • true....but the money parra offered was double from what he was already getting as the coach of NSW.

  • Nice theory. Lets say parra exceeded everyones expectations this year and finished 6th. Do you think stuart would have the left the eels the way hie did?

    • yea i do cause the plan was hatched a yr ago between him and a board member at Canberra, in any case Ricky knew the roster he had and knew there near to no chance of making the semis, who knows he might have even held his coaching back from the Parra players.

  • The extension was Stuart sowing doubts that he was actually going,  to avoid the obvious question and in case he did not get the Canberra deal, though I would say he has been pretty confident for a while. Wasn't the get-out clause only after the first year? This meant the plan was pretty solid from the start. Pick up $800k for a year at Parra and start at Canberra in 2014 on even higher. But it would never have worked at any club but Parra because no club would have paid him that sort of dough and tolerated a no-strings attached get-out clause. I have no doubt Ricky talks a good game and I bet he is a dab hand at flattery. At Parra, he talked himself into an extra 200k and that get-out clause. How could it happen? Because getting screwed over in contracts is what we do. As the wankers like to say, it's in our DNA. Putting a stop to that will be a big step forward.

  • I'll consider your theory if you do one of the standard methodological things when articulating a theory. Can you indicate any fact or circumstance which, if true, would disprove your theory? If no, it's less an actual theory than a self-fulfilling conspiracy 'theory'.
PS: none of which means it's not a cool idea!
    • Ge did say the Raisers have been chasing him for the past decade, is that ang help to you Pro Daz?
  • Bazza, I'm with you 100% on this theory and I would think only a few people were in the loop on this plan because Dave Furner was still the Raiders coach and it was kept on the QT until the Riaders had a good enough reason to give Furner the flick.
