As I sat in the Mick Cronin stand last night it was never more evident that the club is doing the right thing trying desperately to lure a quality half to the eels.
The facts are at this point that Morts and Robson don't have the game to trouble the opposition.....pure and simple, not their fault they are just not that good.
I don't know the answer, did we give up on Tom Humble too soon?
Personally i think I think signing players is more luck than skill, especially young developing ones like Morts, if you let them go and they become game winners elsewhere you get hammered by supporters and the press. If you sign one on the hope he develps and he doesn't then you get caned.
As I keep sayin' to my frustrated mates who constantly say "we have to buy a quality half"....nobody is selling one.....and when they occassionally do come off contract you can't force them to join your club anyway.
I'm as frustrated as anyone, and I don't see Hayne being able to single handedly win us game after game, it's not fair and not reasonable to place that expectation on him, his brilliance is the cherry, unfortunately when it goes in the heat of the oven, our cake that sits underneath him ain't that good.
Well, it's been nearly 20 years since our last quality half black graced the blue and gold, I guess I can wait a few more years for the next one.
Frustrated and resigned.

I just personally really wish Tim Smith hadn't gone off the rails... he was amazing 2005.
When or who was the last side that won a comp in the first 1 2 or even 3 years purely on the basis of aquiring a decent player in a position that has been talked about for what seemsm like forever?
I just cant for the life of me understand how people think that if we buy Cronk we will win the comp come on be realistic it seems that alot of the sides that have won comps over the years are sides that have kept the nucleus of a side in tact and not to mention a few star players in key positions always helps as well and in the Storms case a a never ending salary cap but enough of that
I know alot of fans are calling for the purchase of new half or a quality half but simply aquiring someone like Cronk or any other decent half and getting instant results in the way of a premiesrship sounds way too easy to be true!!!!
I also sat in the Mick Cronin stand last night and I had the same thoughts as you, I'm not going to dump on those two players but the plain truth is at the moment they just do not trouble the opposition. Some say KK is the answer others say Tom Humble, I don't know the answer. What I do know is that you need a quality half to win a comp and why haven't the Eels had one since Sterlo. Its true Hayne has way too much on his shoulders.
Keep the faith, there is always hope!
