We are tough Buggers - a response to Phil

Phil, there has been a lot of emotion surrounding the departure of our once in a generation player. But surely you realise how hard the Eels membership are!We have been fed a diet of poor teams, poor coaches, atrocious on field efforts, false promises, 5 year plans, board squabbles, poor communication, membership stuff ups, games taken from us, no premiership for nearly 30 years, stars leaving us. Need I go on?But still we front up. We buy our memberships in record numbers. We turn up to watch our team get flogged. We cop some awful times but we never walk away. How's that for hard? Now we lose him. Fans are going to be emotional. Isn't that to be expected. This is unique in league history. What do we need to help us? Something from the club that doesn't talk about 2016. We need 2015 solutions. But regardless, I'll front up next year and so will my fellow supporters because we are Parra fans, for life and damn proud of it.I also made sure that I didn't use " Eels members are hard " as my blog title.

  • Tough? I was thinking "masochistic"...
    • Probably mate.
  • Dare I say it's like a religion to us. Lol

I've been following since the early 70's and seen the highs and lows. But bloody hell the lows have been hanging around for a while.

Maybe I'm delusional, with a dissociative disorder.

When are the membership packs going to come out with a coupon for 5 free sessions? Larissa!!!!!
    • I've watched from the days of the Thornett brothers, Ivor Lingard and Thirsty Lynch. The bad times make the good times so much sweeter. That next good time could be a health risk!
    • I think its all the more difficult as we have been fed so many 'interim' or 'waiting' stages ;  'Re-building', 'Five year plans' just to name a few. It finally seemed we had turned a corner, we all started to relax and enjoy a coach who seemed to 'get us'. We had a team who could have made the top eight . Life was looking promising.

It's a big curveball, one I certainly wasn't expecting and it's bloody stuffed things up lol

  • Totally how i feel carlo.

  • Well said sixties, i spoke to phil about his blog, at the time i was annoyed by his 'harden the fuck up' blog, 24 hours after we had lost Hayne, but as a few days have passed and ive got a bit more clarity, i realise Phil was just making a call to arms, its in his nature to assess problems quickly and and rationally, while i was in shock Phil was looking to the future and taking positives out of bad news, so kudos Phil, lol but it was a bit quick to write the blog, not very sensitive of him ha.

But its onwards and upwards, nothing can dull our love for the club.

    • It's been a shit week Snake, all adult unicorns have been shot.

But hopefully it won't be long before the next breed are raring to go and we can raise our flags and cheer our team.

FK this!!! This is why I hate your FKING reality.... Where's my bloody unicorn? Lol
    • Understood Snake. But as a lifelong fan, the rallying behind the team is instinctive. A true fan may vent and moan from time to time. We all have our own idiosyncrasies for how we show our support. But in spite of this, I've come to realise that the common characteristic of the true fan ( as apposed to the bandwagonners) is that we are there year after year regardless. The fair weather fan might need a call to arms, not us. In fact, the club and the players are probably the ones in greatest need of a call to arms.
    • Still not something you get over easy, the off season helps but any news or pictures you see just bring you right back to the pain. Going from true competitors over the next two years for the first time in a decade to going back to hoping.

"The defensive issue is in the halves, Pezet was a turnstyle in that period and our defence misshapen, it was only after Haas went off that we regained any rythm.....Moses was also trying to be everywhere and ended up nowhere, clutching air a lot.…"

"JDB had the highest tackle efficiency of any Eels player at 95%. That's basically his job. Make the tackles in the middle in the opening 20 minutes."

"Keep him where he is, let him grow into the role, he will get his chance, why lose the momentum he brings, same as Walker."
