  • I'm looking forward to the movie, even though Jimi's girlfriend, who now lives in Melbourne, reckons it is full of shit.

The bloke had it all,the look, the phenomenal guitar and drug taking skills, plus he was hung like a horse. Why would you need to embellish anything?

    • Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me, however the doco was produced by his estate (controlled by his younger sister) and yes they only showed the good stuff.

  • I'm a guitar player, so I had to watch it - saw it on ABC a few days ago

I thought it was excellent - the letters to his Dad, and the whole back story before fame was fascinating

I still marvel at how far ahead of his time his artistic ability truly was

    I loved the doco

    • The feedback intro to Foxey Lady is probably my favourite thing to play.Fuck the neighbours,I crank my amp and go for it.

I recently found out that Jimi's favourite guitar player actually played a "bazooka" as Jimi called it.His name was Manolis Hiotis,a legendary Greek bouzouki player from the 50s and 60s who added a 4th set of strings to the 3 set string bouzouki, tuned it like a guitar ,but a tone lower and added a pickup. It was amazing watching a Greek documentary about Jimi's admiration for Hiotis

It was pretty funny watching this little old lady describing how Jimi would go down to clubs in New York where Manolis was playing and try to pick his brains.

  • Hendrix was well ahead of his times. Often wondered if he didn't die, what would he doing now (besides scratching on the lid of his coffin)...I reckon he would be a producer and still playing and burning his guitars. He gave Keith Richards a guitar, a black Fender and Eric Clapton got a black Gibson from Hendrix.I believe that Hendrix was murdered. They're reopening the case on his death. His estate is third richest behind Elvis and Wacko Jacko. Worth a bucket load of money and he got more talent than flamin' Elvis and Jackson. I've visited his grave with my ex girlfriend. She was a great guitarist and we played stuff like Along the Watchtower, Foxy Lady, Purple Haze...I never really got into his music. I admire and respect him but I'm more of a Stones and Who and Cream fan...

  • No better guitarist than Hendrix. I have on DVD live at Woodstock and live at the Filmore East (band of gypsys). Didn't he lose his drummer Mitch Mitchell over a contract dispute? Mitch played at Woodstock and by late '69 left the band. If you get a chance listen to Hendrix and Morrison, download on YouTube F.H.I.T.A. Classic drunk Morrison and I read Hendrix wasn't impressed.
