Saw this with the Lakers and many of the issues they have are very similar to what Parra are dealing with.
Man U much the same until the above mentioned is executed and you have the best in place off the park then we'll start to see real tangible results on it.
Alot has been put on JRs plate which just isn't realistic without the correct supporting people and a plan in place behind him. This is so key.
Back to the Lakers and there new owner he's all about spending money in the key spots especially infrastructure which is key for onfield success.
Theres lessons to be learned here.

Found this for our Pathways / Juniors - Ben Rogers is in charge of our Top 30 Recruitment and Retention. As far as scouts are concerned, that's an interesting question, once upon a time we had Noel Cleal as our head scout, not sure if their job title has been changed to Recruitment Managers. "It would appear that it has"
Surely we have one and as Blue Eel showed below it seems like we do.
We have it how good is it vs the rest of the nrl ? what's the transference rate of average good or elite talent v what's coming through is the question I move to now we have it.
Is getting talent through the pathway a pass mark or does the results of the given teams the talents moving into count for more.See for me it's a continued evaluation of questions until we get the desired result out the other end.
Getting to FG is bar one of the pass marks not the pathways are successful nothing to see here.
I'd be looking at that transference and team results matter off the given description by BE.
Havent touched on retention either that's another issue of many I see.
Yeah fair,
Spot on Coryn, to me it appears we are able to spot and sign talent at pathways levels to some degree. Are we at the top of our game in this area, it would appear possible not if recent Junior rep positions are taken into account.
When we get pathways talent coming through and identified real future first graders on the fringe, we have an enormous problem in showing those players they have a future at the Eels.
This same problem exists showing NRL elite players off contract that they have a future at the Eels, and when recruiting from other clubs the same problem.
We must find out within the club why this is happening, how to fix it. That may involve better training for Mark O'Neil and co, it may involve upgrading our negotiators and closers. It may involve presenting the club as a destination club and the nuances that that involves.
'I feel it's a mixture of all those, but one thing is certain. Ryles cannot move us up the competition ladder with the current playing roster and the Eels inability to recruit real in demand talent is hampering the rebuild in key areas.
Spot on BE. The transference to 1st grade is also on the 1st grade coach. I thought BA was quite poor in this regard at times. Our recruitment and retention is where we are severely lacking. We let go of Gutho, Ofa and RCG, whether you agree with it or not, we lost 3 players that would have made our squad better and have not been replenished bar Dylan Walker. We have very little depth in props yet we did not re sign Ogden who as far as I know is unsigned and could of filled a hole for a season on a cheap deal. The emergence of some of our younger players is great but could of happened regardless of keeping some of the above mentioned players. In light of brown leaving next year I'd actually be very comfortable with Gutho at 6 for a year or 2. I mean look at the bulldogs and forget the larger signings in Kikau, Burton and Chrichton, but look at the next tier players that they have signed, Xerri, Salmon, Tracey, Curran, Mahoney, Tupoinua, Taffe. All these players have made their squad better and most of these players you would argue start in our side, yet I don't believe we chased any of of them, certainly not with any success. MON needs to be replaced by someone better and Coryn is right, if the CEO and chairman don't have the stones or ability to do it, they need to go too
There's so many different ways you can attract top flight talent without paying overs you just have to think outside the box.
You can have links to private schools to educate a players siblings or child , facilitating job opportunities for relatives, real estate opportunities and financial advise .
But what Parramatta should be looking at to make the club more attractive is cater for players wives and girlfriends .
Prominent women at the club could foster an environment where players wives and girlfriends at other clubs are envious of the perks afforded to the Eels players partners.
Using corporate partners allow the women as a group to attend movie premieres, fashion shows , regular day spas, balls , high profile horse racing events all under a carefully put together social media account designed to create jealousy.
Foster great relationships with the women involved with discounted clothing and accessories, afford them child care facilities for free.
Overseas trips and weekends away all outside the cap .
Basically we want the players partners demand they sign with the Eels.
If we can't convince top players to sign we'll convince their partners.
Exactly BUP so what are we doing ?
Being creative and having a point of difference to your competitors is the only way to run a business. Good shout Bup
This is a post I made in reply to NOS on the 18th June. I figure it has more implication under the heading and reinforces Bup's opinion as well. NOS was very astute in his subsequent reply and further gave weight to the underlying discussion.
"I like where your coming from NOS, its a thoughtful and balanced approach recognising the issues confronting us.
I think personally that Campbell from the Titans is very gettable and a perfect collection for the 5/8 spot, not to mention his portability anywhere in the backline. In saying that I think we have to offer 5/8 outright because that portability is making him unsettled where he is. Whilst we and everybody would like Kotoa, I cannot see Dolphins letting him out of their sight.
The other things are two good forwards, but at a better than average status. Unfortunately not sure who they are?
I especially like your references to the COE and after career type positions. I notice Reynolds from Bronco's is staying there because he has been offered post playing career options.
I would like to see us doing a deal with some one like Kings School offering scholarships paid for by the club for the educational future of players children. Education via private schooling is now unbelievabley expensive and offers of this nature would make for a great attraction to families with young children.
This can apply to Child minding, pre school and primary with future promises of secondary schooling, given most kids will be too young at such a stage of their parent's careers.
Even offers of this sort of support can be enhancing from a club culture point of view. Adult education also could be looked at for players and partners. God only knows some of them could do with it. Including our juniors.
Imagine if we could of started a programme in public speaking for Jarryd Hayne, Dyllon Brown etc. I bet you Nathan Hindmarsh would have liked something like that given his now public persona and his prior poker machine problem.
Many of these kids and players are impressionable, no reason why we cannot be the "Academic Club"
Great post NOS, certainly got me thinking of some of these avenues".
