Totally out muscled

When the going gets tough, parra disappear. Same old story really - we need some muscle upfront.I rate BA very highly as a coach, but i believe he mad some massive selection blunders. How Matagi gets a spot before Kenny Edwards is beyond me. Also, Auvaa is too slow for the wing.Lets be honest, they all looked a bit rusty. I cant remember the last time Manu and Jennings played so badly.BA also got his rotation wrong. Alvaro and Tepai need to be out there for longer periods. Our go forward is better when they're on the field and the plug up the middle a lot better as well.Yes it's the 1st game and yes they were bit rusty, but there were 2 different eels sides out there yesterday, the one that played in the opening 20 mins and the one that played the remaining 60.The positives:its Round 1Hayne played wellBevan was solid as well - although i believe he will move to the wing once Gutherson is back.Onto next week when we take on our old arch rivals at Brookie

  • Agree 100%
We were smashed in the second half and had nobody with the toughness to turn it back onto the panthers. Beau Scott is a impotent in attack and defence and should retire. Bring Kenny Edwards back. I also agree and have always thought that BA uses the bench rotation to the detriment of the team.
  • Yep!!! Our forward pack just isn’t good enough. This is why we always get rolled half way through games. When fatigue kicks in and you have to stop the big boppers.
  • To me the turning point seemed to be when Corey Norman missed that conversion right in front. That would have brought the score to 16-0. Trailing 16-12 Penrith would not have taken a penalty shot for goal but rather have gone for a 4 pointer.

However we ran out of steam. It seems if we go at 100 km per hour in the first 20 minutes we have nothing left in the tank. We have to learn to be stayers not sprinters.

    • Yep you could see a definite change one the bench forwards came on. They weren't bending the line and caused little headaches for Penrith. BA needs to find some bench forwards to continue where Alvaro, Tepai and Mannah leave off. I also think we need a captain on the field who can lift the players when things are down. We tend to fall apart and give away penalties if things go against us, and that is why we lose these types of games. Maybe Hayne needs to be more of a leader in this sense, but he did play well yesterday, doing what he needed to do. Also saved a couple of tries.

  • I honestly don’t think the Eels will make the 8 this year! I know it’s only round 1 but I didn’t like what I saw yesterday especially in the 2nd half and the Panthers 1st try before half time was disgraceful defence.

  • Attitude, It was great to start until we got out to a 14 point lead. That's when it all changed & the team looked exactly like they did is the second final against the Cowboys. The Eels look good when the forwards are running hard but that only happened for about 20 minutes yesterday. If I was to pick the one thing that sent us on our downward spiral yesterday it was the forward runs. Last season in defence the boy's were quickly to move up however yesterday the line waited for the attack & that gave then enough room to create gaps in the line. Error's & penalties are another area the teams needs to fix. Very lazy footy yesterday but hopefully they will get their butt's kicked during video review & will tidy up a few area's. It's only round one so let's hope the team see's the error's of their ways.

  • Scott needs to go
  • Scott definitely should of retired last year & Matagi is to inconsistent & has the terrible hands
  • Like the heading said we were out muscled
    Like the finals last year
Peni needs to play he at least punches holes in the defence
Vave when he comes back from injury
Penrith were smart held back there big men
    When they unleashed them
    We were found out
    • Agreed. I thought it was strange that RCG was benched, and to a lesser extent Kikau, but it turned out to be a masterstroke for the Panthers. Once they came on, and our bench of Matagai and Evans came on, things started looking very different.

"Same, Kurupt. Whatever the outcome, Jim, Beach, Ryles and the club stood united and stood their ground when they were meant to roll over for the Storm and PLV, discreetly. Moses SC has also been brilliant."
