First let me say great defencive win tonight, gutsy win.Two running halfs do not mix, no game manager tonight, too much indecision, to many last set plays bombed. As a spectacle very poor, in saying that ,
last years eels would have folded.

Were lucky the Knights threw a few forward passes. Back On the fence with Dylan Brown, his kicking game was less than ordinary, and he didn't show a lot in attack. I think he will improve with MM back. He certianly hasn't got the confidence or ability to lead the team around. Nor should he being 20.
Neither do two apparently!
Grammar corrected Electric, was meant to be an eye catcher lol
Every half should be a running half, if a half isn't running he's not threateing the line and the defence can ignore him. The problem wasn't two running halves, it was two inexperienced halves.
Brett, the intent was to show no on field general tonight, yes halves should run, but only when its on, and if its the last tackle in our attacking set, one should be ready for our kick. Our last tackle attacking sets were abysmal, giving Newie too many sets in good attacking positions, unacceptable. Im sure that wasnt B.As game plan
Yes, but that's got nothing to do with style of play, it's a matter of experience. Dylan Brown is 20 and has played 34 NRL games, Jai Field is 22 and has played 13 NRL games, that right there was the problem. Their individual styles of play are fine, they work together OK, it's the lack of experience that nearly cost us today. We get Mitch and his 138 NRL games back and it will be fine.
In essence you are correct, Brown and Field are in experienced, but they have played plenty of games at half in juniour and lower grade teams. Im guessing tho. BAs plan wouldnt be to run it on the last play without a back up Brett. Our game plan has been based on hard, fast starts, backed with good hard runs from our forwards, followed by kicks into a corner, whether the be long or high kicks with a good chase. They didnt follow the game plan, obviously, and whats worse they didnt learn from their errors. Individually and defencively they went well. As a halves pairing they dont work, or at least didnt in this match
On Brown he telegraphs his runs too much I'd like to see him do what Moses is good at , hitting the ball at speed with your eyes selling the pass and as soon as you see the shoulder turn out from the defender run.
Hes not selling pass when he runs and not selling run when he passes. With Johns tutelage he'll improve there.
When he takes the ball at speed he's courageous and takes the ball right to line like Foran and when he does he's at his most dangerous.
BA said in the presser this week was a big week without the ball - they concentrated on D and did little to no attack stuff and this showed through with some clunky attack. He hasn't been happy with our defense over the last couple of weeks but was very happy with what he saw tonight.
I'd say our defense was fantastic tonight but we did look a bit flat as a whole. 2 points in the bank though :))
Interesting that the Newie coach's comments practically mirrored BA's - he was also looking at defense this week. He said "defense wins you comps - that's a fact". Smart bloke.
It's a good time of year to be winning ugly. We're humming along nicely - no need to be at our spectacular best just yet :)
Our defense was resilient. Top marks there. Our attack was clunky.
This game showed why Moses is so central to the Eels. We kept the Knights in the game by poor last tackle options and poor general field kicking and short kicking. Moses fixes all three.
We would 100% have lost that game in years gone by but they've found something in defense.
Add Moses back in, and if we improve our right edge defense, the Eels are legit title contenders in 2020 in my opinion. We dominate the middle. Out left side is lethal. Moses in form has a kicking game to keep field position and repeat sets going.
