Too Dependent and Too Critical

Jarryd Hayne is a star. I will be the first one to say that; but do we depend on him too much? When he's amazing he's amazingly praised. He led Parra to win the three games - Cowboys, Panthers and Bulldogs and he was compared to multiple great players. So how come when Parra loses to the Roosters, who are a very very good and well trained team this year, he suddenly isn't that wonderful player anymore? Just because sparks weren't flying off his boots at all times doesn't mean he didn't play well. Infact, despite the fact that the Roosters contained him so well having 4 or more men on each tackle of his, he still had the best statistics of the team.

All Run Metres: 146 (highest)
All Runs: 12 (2nd highest, one below the highest)
Most Kicking Metres: 66 (2nd highest)
Kick Return Metres: 27 (highest)
Most Points: 4 (tied highest)
Most Kicks: 3 (second highest)
Line Breaks: 2 (highest)
Tackle Breaks: 9 (highest, the closest to him was 2.)

How can anyone say that he wasn't the Parra Man-of-the-Match? His try didn't get the praise that any of his tries during the Cowboys, Panthers or Bulldogs games did but it was still an amazing try in which, with his pure strength and speed beat 3 Roosters players and I don't understand why it didn't. Was it because he didn't run around like a Plane afterwards so he no longer deserves the title "Hayne Plane"?

I do agree with spectators in saying that it definatly wasn't his game of the year. But why are we so dependent and critical of him?

  • As was I, compared to all of the other players he looked like an absolute star. Most players had many zeros down the column which is dissapointing to see

It would be a completely different story as well. We would be feared greatly, even with the one Hayne we have we are. I too feel sorry, that's why I posted this blog. I feel too much pressure is on him which is why at times he seems to be trying to hard. Sometimes people need to step back and realise he is only 22 years of age. I know I couldn't too, but some how and sometimes he manages to take the pressure reflecting on his leadership skills and his intense self criticism

He has already managed to score some of the best tries in history, it's unbelievable. I guess it is this time of the season and the circumstances. I just hope it doesn't get to him
  • We have two defensive halves, so that leaves all the attacking to Jarryd.

    Jarryd fires = Parramatta wins
Jarryd less than brilliant = Parramatta loses
  • I thought Hayne was fantastic last night.

Yes, he was caught out on a few kicks last night, but when you have to concentrate on the boots of Carney, Pearce and Anasta thats completely understandable.

Roosters had the majority of momentum for most of the night, Hayne has been guilty in the past of going into his shell when we have been under the pump however last night he took it on himself to try to get us out of it. Unfortunately when no one else is an attacking threat to the opposition then of course it makes his job a great deal harder.
  • Agree with you here, his try was awesome, what a superman. Cant believe the Telecrap going on about 'The Hayne Plane' being shot down, Despite the big loss his individual stats for the game are some thing only a great player could come up with in a badly flogged team.. The Hayne Plane was not shot down, it was not allowed to fly
    • I agree completely. I was trying to say he didn't have a bad game; as the stats show. Just tomorrow, the Telegraph will definatly point some blame his way. And during the game Fox Sports decided to play a reel of "Hayne Positioning" criticising him. Which is where I say how critical of him they are if he isn't being amazing/

I never thought of the Keating-Mateo combination. Seems it would actually work. I'm fed up of Mortimer, he just fills the number 7 jersey but does nothing with it.
