I saw Jarryd play Rugby Sevens tonight at the home of upper class Englishmen ,Twickenam Rugby Union Stadium. The first thing to strike one was the very poor fan turnout. Like ANZ on a cold wet Monday night. But it was daytime over there! With all the propaganda about how wonderful World Sevens was I was completely underwhelmed.
Jarryd came off the bench for his game for Fiji against England. He came on in the second half with about 21/2 minutes to go. He touched the ball once, drew the defence and passed the ball to a Fijian player who passed the ball to an Englishman who ran in for a try as full time was blown. England won 30 odd to about 12.
All the experts were expecting Fiji to smash England. The world champion Fijians to me looked like a team in the bottom eight of NSW CUP. When Jarryd gets decent run he will do enough to go to Rio in my opinion.

Thanks Robert.
I missed the game and relied upon this site to see how he went. I found nothing, initially but then you put up this blog. Good stuff.
Pity re Hayne getting one touch of the ball.
Next on list...cricket
While Hayne had very few opportunities in Fiji's first game, it would be fair to say that Fiji were thoroughly outplayed by England and none of their players got many touches at all.
The second game vs Wales saw Fiji run out 42-5 victors. Hayne came on with about 5 mins to go in the second half. He had a couple of touches, with his runs looking ok - but he is reluctant to go to ground with the ball, resulting in poor passes in order to keep the ball alive.
Hayne is quite a way from being comfortable in this game, as he doesn't seem to have any of the nuances of defensive play as yet. He looks like the 12th best player in the Fiji squad (which is still pretty good). I'm hoping he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew.
I tuned in. Anyone can see the level of fitness required to make it in International Seven's.
Lack of skill won/t be the factor for him to miss Rio, simply Aerobic capacity!
Regardless, you can never rule him out!
