TO BE OR NOT TO BE HAYNE

Firstly Folkes , I am a HAyne admirer. He would have to be one of the most talented footballers of the modern era and no one better to watch when he is on song . But here is where the dilemma lies. We as a club have become so dependent on him that it's beginning to stifle the club at his core. I would be disappointed if he leaves! . I think hayne would do well at a strong club were there would be other superstars . I feel he needs to be at a club where his not the whole focus of the club/fans and media. I feel that hayne has to much of a say on what goes on and that cannot be a good thing. I have no evidence on this but this is just what I perceive as a fan looking in.I hope the club doesn't sell it soul to keep hayne!Thoughts

  • We are very very lucky to have Jarryd, but everything comes with a few negatives, why would we want to get rid of the greatest player to ever pull on an eels jersey, its madness, he just needs to be managed well, and nobody is selling their soul to keep him jelly, might he be better at another club?, maybe who knows but we are bloody lucky to have him at ours imo.

    • Holy crap! Am I hearing this right? You want to lose Hayne because he is too influential on the team? That's like saying the Cowboys should lose Thurston or Melbourne lose Smith for the same reason. He is bloody captain and our best player so he needs to have"'too much to say". That's his job.
Also as a superstar that remains loyal to a under performing team he has every right to speak his mind.
  • I have to agree with you Jelly. As much as I'd hate to see him at another club it seems like he has too much pull in the club on so many levels that the club almost revolves around him. I'm sure everyone would agree the club is bigger than any one player but it hasn't seemed the case for the last couple of years.

He worries more about the goings on of the club than his own job and hearing him speak at our most recent post match conference only confirmed this. IMO Hayne needs to worry about being a fullback only (he should be stripped of the captaincy based on his approach to referees alone) and leave other dilemmas such as team selection, injury crises and salary cap issues to those whose job it is to manage. That being said, we need BA and the front office staff to have faith in and be firm in their decisions no matter how unpopular they may be. Only by doing this can we alleviate Hayne and other players influence and concerns so that the players only have to focus on what happens on the field.
  • Monto in the 80s we had plenty of champions, it was a once in a generation team, none of those champions could do what jarryd does, as Andrew Johns said 'jarryd has the most broad, complete skill set he has ever seen in a RL player'' so the focus back then was spread amongst the team, jarryd has been basically our only world class player since then, of course the focus is on him, nor is it his fault.

I honestly cant believe you are saying its time for him to go elsewhere, you wont know what we have until its gone, we will spend another 50 years looking for somebody like him, and if you cant see us winning a comp with him in the team, forget about winning one without him, when he is gone one day its only then you will realise what he is worth to the club, he will be irreplaceable.

  • Can't believe the comments in this thread, the last 4 years of shitfulness has melted some of your brains, before we lost Peats and most of our starting pack he was the best player in the comp.  Now we have struggled to compete in the forwards, in the collision and the wrestle the last 4 weeks Hayne needs to be moved on lol.  Gee fucking whiz.

    • Alan, honestly some of the comments in this thread have to be the most stupid ive ever read on this site, they will take a lot of beating in the future.

    • I don't think Hayne needs to be moved on. I just think he needs to focus on his job and the only way to allow him to do that is with a strong front office and coaching staff.
  • So EE who was better?

The likes of Kenny and Sterling only had 1/4 of the skills across the park that Jarryd has, in terms of natural skill and the ability to win games, jarryd is easily the greatest player to ever pull on an eels jersy.

Nor have we ever had another player who can win origin games off their own back, if you think kenny, ella, price, grothe, sterlo etc were better than Jarryd your living in the past and overestimate what those guys did on the park.

    • Snake is correct. Hayne is the best Eel we've ever seen. Hands down.
      • Totally agree but hard to compare eras especially as players today are much bigger & generally more skilful than players 30 years ago.
