This from a Raiders fan on another forum:

"The rumour as I've heard it goes like this. Moltzen is on close tominimum wage, but has some lucrative bonuses in his contract. TheTigers had tried to, unsuccessfully, tried to claim a salary capexemption for part of Farah and another player's salary (Gibbs maybe?).As a result of that being knocked back, they won't pay Moltzen hisbonus because it would put then over the cap.

As a result, Moltzen is apparently completely disillusioned with the club and desperate to leave.

All complete supposition at this stage, but that's the rumour"

So how come Raiders are onto it, and not us? Because w e are too busy chasing has been halves and we dont even see the young utility options available. When Moltzen got injured, Tigers started losing. They only picked up later in the season when Lui found a bit of form. IMO an excellent player. The question is whether Tigers will release him from his minimum contract. Why are Raiders chasing a half anyway?

  • Motlzen, whilst originally a fullback, is actually pretty good as halfback for the Tigers. Problem is, his role is more 'ball distributor' for Marshall whereas we need a 'general'.

Not sure a fullback-come-halfback is necessarily going to be that general.
  • I'm not much a fan of him!
And what's wrong with him? Knee reconstruction?

    Nahhhhhhh!

  • Guys, he was very good at half for Tigers early in the season before his injury. Lui only came in as a replacement. They had alot of trouble filling his position with the fill-ins like Blake Lazarus not working out....Its his preferred position rather than fullback. Hes still young and very talented.....Did you guys not notice the string of losses Tigers had after his injury? Yes maybe its Marshall who made him look good, i dont know,....but our side would look pretty good next year with the addition of GRAHAM and MOLTZEN in the back-line.
  • Moltzen goes well as a half *at the tigers*.

Key being in his situation that he has the best attacking hooker in the game controlling play and arguably the most skillfull ball player in the NRL outside of him, thus all his job entails is feeding the ball to Marshall and help feed the backs. He doesn't have to worry about creating the 'big play'.

I believe you could play Jeff Robson at the tigers and they would still work as fluently as they do with Moltzen.
  • P.S wouldn't you rather wait a year and get Quade Cooper ;) ?
  • Moltzen 7 Hayne 6 would work very well IMO. Hayne is better than Benji just needs more experience at 6.
  • I think he is a real goer, i read about this today on Weidlers Twitter, that Moltzen wants out due to bonus payments...

I would take him any day... You fit him in somewhere.... Guy is a speedster
  • There's no doubting that he has the ability, but the fact that he's on the comeback trail from a serious injury creates some doubt as to whether or not we should make a play for him at all.

He's actually set to make a surprise comeback this week should Benji be ruled out, which he most likely will be.

At the end of the day, ultimately, any half we will get will be for a year tops, as the likelihood that QC will come is looking good.
Having said that, I wouldn't object to having Tim Moltzen in our side at all.
  • He is quality in about 3 positions.

we have $500k plus yet to spend for next season !

Get him on the books, Front Load It, Back Load It. Whatever.

Quality young guys like him don't come available too often !
