  • Yeah he makes some great points, Ryles has certainly been up against it, and punting Gutherson and Brown took some balls. It was absolutely needed to restore some pride in this team , having an egomaniac as a captain and a total doofus goofball in our halves who hides behind the line in attack , was holding us back from any kind of development.  He could've quite easily played it much safer.

I still don't think we've turned any corners as yet, and I won't be hoisting my Ryles flag out the front until we recruit some actual established talent, but I'm liking his courage so far to have a dig and stand up to a playing group that's been taking the piss . Ryles coaching like a true Bezerkely fibros kid, he was a tough bugger growing up , but not very bright. But I must say he's exceeded my expectations so far, I'm happy to admit that .

Let's not forget here, if eyebrows is half a foot backwards the other night , we are dead last and having a very different conversation this week.,

    • Is he a Berkely boy?

  • I thought to myself earlier in the year, this guy going to be a great coach. You could see he did his apprenticeship with the best clubs, people are going to start to notice him very soon. Huge difference to say Benji, the poor guy went from having his own show to coaching. Ryles is looking at long term success, Tigers want it now.

  • Ryles has the potential to be the eels most important signature since Jack Gibson.

Where the clubs improved markedly is in the effort areas that we've traditionally been poor in, kick pressure, kick chase, support play, scrambling defense, getting onside quickly after an opposition kick, working hard from the inside defensively, line speed , efforts from marker but an overall attitude of application.

Obviously still a lot of improvements to be be made , but with how quickly Ryles and team have sorted out a bent out of shape roster and gained improvement enmasse of near every member of the playing group is phenomenal in such a short time.

Credit where credits due to everyone involved in this evolution of the football department.

Theres a lot to be excited about, can't rest on your laurels however and  there's still a lot of work to be done , improvement to be found but there's certainly a great platform to build off.

Recruiting the right players will determine how quickly we improve in the short term, how will the Eels handle expectations though moving forward if we get those key signings as the media jumps aboard the Ryles hype train.

Its so refreshing having a coaching department that utilises different game plans.

Watching  us play our football we'll  be a nightmare to come up with the right game plan moving forward if we continue to shore up that middle third and find another 30 metres a game out of each of our forwards.

Our ball movement is first class if we can do it off the back of a pack that eats metres there'll be plenty of points in this football team.

  • I think Ricky Stuart for coach of the year.

Ryles could be argued to have done the best coaching job in the league this season though.  Our style of play in attack is completely revamped and refreshing and it's been primarily built with a rookie fullback , half interested 6, back up 7 and rookie 9s . The defensive system has come on in leaps and bounds but like you guys said our effort areas .. kick pressure , kick chase , working from marker , filling spaces , working from the inside , line speed .. are so far ahead of where they were 12 months ago.
We aren't quite ready to consistently play for 80 minutes and we get plenty of rookie errors and moments of clunkiness in our attack .. we also have individuals making mistakes in defence from time to time but I have full confidence we have a coaching staff that uses these as teaching moments and develops the players to get better . Very optimistic about the future with Ryles in charge , more optimistic than I've been any time in the last 15 years . The improvement in individuals has been great to see and while I don't rate players like Russell if he brings his effort , attention to detail and continues to develop it's hard to argue him being selected again .

  • Its the first time where i thought "yeah were winning a comp under this guy" the team is playing with belief and pride in the jersey that i haven't seen in a long time. When we get a couple tries put on us they have this sprit to keep pushing until the gas runs out, he's not here to quick fix he's here to build a dynasty. He is giving the keys to these kids to lose to win to get the feel of what first grade is, once they click into gear we will go on a run. Most excited i've been with the club, the more i see the more the kids learn and play they'll reap the rewards.

  • I made a bold call on here a couple of months ago that ryles will be the coach that ends our premiership drought.

I haven't seen anything yet that makes me regret that call.

  • Not a BA bash up at all, but the difference in our play in general is crystal clear with Jason in charge. It feels fresher more exciting and less predictable. Something I have not seen in many years. Jason knows what he wants and is going after it. Very exciting times ahead,we need to smooth the edges in some areas but we are getting there. Maybe quicker than initially thought. Jason does have a Gibson vibe about him. He will ring the bell to claim the which is again dead when the time comes.

  • I like the way we heading will done Jason Ryles

  •  Minus 2 first games we are in each game with injuries. He seems to know defence and the young guys are listening
