When he was only signed until 2027, I honestly couldn't believe it. Anyone could see he could be the cornerstone of the eels pack for a decade, yet the absolute dh's in R&R have a situation where we have one of our best prospects since Utokimanu ( don't get me started on Utokimanu), off contract next year.
Last year, they left it until the last minute to re sign Sam, thats how incompetent these dumb people are.

We kept Daniel Alvaro over Stefano Utokimanu. Go figure that one out genius
We didn't? Alvaro was loaned to the Warriors during 2020 and was then released to St George. He played one game in the opening 12 weeks of the season. We definitely weren't prioritising him. Stefano had signed with the Tigers in early 2020.

Alvaro won the Thornett medal in 2018. He was extended that same year (before the KT Medal) to the end of 2019. In 2019 (after the KT Medal) we extended him to the end of 2021.
In 2019 we upgraded Stefano to an NRL development contract. We also signed Ryan Matterson and Reagan Campbell-Gillard for 2020.
By the end of 2019 Stefano had signed for 2021 at the Tigers for $800K a season.

I would, if anything, argue we kept Kaufusi instead of Utoikamanu. Not Alvaro.
We definitely did. Kaufusi was further down the development path given he went from Flegg to NRL in 2018. He also wasn't demanding $800K a year before he debuted when we had 2 of the best starting front rowers in the game.
Every club has quality players off contract at the end of 27. We still have 8 months to work things out. Herbie and Preston are both free to negotiate in November as well. guess they are run by a bunch of dopes as well.
The r and r team deserve criticism from time to time. But this isn't one of them.
