Refereeing is the worst part of Rugby League. The NRL could weed out the worst referees by applying advanced statistics. e.g. The probability of the Eels giving away the first six penalties is so remote that there must be some other explanation other than than that the Eels were lax in obeying the rules of the game. The other possible explanation is is an incompetent referee or a biased referee. Consistent application of statistics would reveal which of the other possible explanations is true.

A couple of points to raise here.
1. Lets eliminate one of the possibilities you have raised here by banning betting on NRL. FULL STOP!
2. Now lets face it Chrissy has had a chequered past and a history of being "on the punt". He probably knows a hell of a lot more about what happens behind the scenes than we will ever know. Just possibly, his question was targeted to someone who's ultimate "over the top" decision in sending Sandow to the bin was of "he who doth protest too much"!! Think about it!
More referees was supposed to make the game better.
But I'd argue it's not better. Maybe the same or worse.
Too many refs mean to many interpretations and seemingly no real accountability for their performance.
Tough job sure, but arent they paid professionals too?
