1. An all or nothing mentality.
If the Eels aren't giving it their all, they won't win it.
2. A true team performance.
Individually they can't win it, but as a team they absolutely can.
3. Fast, aggressive up in the oppositions face defence.
When the Eels have played their best, their defence has been their best asset. Smash the opposition into submission.
I say this every year when the Eels are in finals contention. They need to all sit down together and watch the 09 highlights. Everything was done as a team in both attack and defence. That is what will get them the immortality they are all seeking.
I have faith and believe they will do it.
Go Parra.

I tell you what it will take.
Make the team sit through the NRL documentary Eels 86 - the story of Parramatta's last premiership.
I laughed, I cried I even got goosebumps reliving that 86 GF final few minutes. If that doco doesn't motivate the boys then nothing will.
Simply inspirational words from legends like Price, Sterlo, Kenny, Grothe and Wynn. This is how the current squad need to talk about the club and their team mates. Genuine guys who loved to win but more importantly loved playing for each other with a winning at all cost mentality
Frank The Tank agreed Franky. That was a superb one; the last few mins alone still give me chills and tears. That tackle with about 6 players underneath the bulldogs player in the corner! Think Sterlo was there too. It was tough stuff and we never gave up nor let our middle get belted by teams. Others claim we didnt have the forwards back then but C'bury tried to belt us and didnt get over us.
I was 8 or 9 when we won that GF. I remember bits and pieces of that Win.
Just watched it in on YouTube FTT. What inspiration!
head high galore... loved it when (I think)Kenny said when talking about Ray Price..'he looked half dead ...they smash him and he just kept coming back....'
Ray price was like the terminator
I have a renewed respect for Ray after watching that.
Sterlo had zero doubts as to who was the best player he has played with or seen - Ray Price, and now in hindsight I can see the qualities he possessed that very few have. Skill is Critical but that alone isnt enough.
Toughness, resilience, perseverance an unrivalled leader and will to win at all costs - he was a true leader that others would walk over hot coals for. He did all this is the semi professional era where most still had to have a job to make a living. That was love for the sport and the Eels, that was playing for jersey.
Who is our modern day leader, who can step up and help this squad surge to premiership glory?
Nobody. To be honest we haven't had a decent captain since Ray.. Cayless was ok , but still not tough enough.. maybe Dean Pay .
Yep Ray Price insisted that Parra won the Premiership in 86. He was not having it any other way and as captain made sure his players were well and truly on board as well. It will take a similar mentality this year, but the players need to believe they will do it.
I took your advice Frank. It was outstanding.
Goosebumps stuff mate.
I've watched it twice now and I recommend every Eels fan watch it. It's cathartic and makes me proud to call myself an Eels supporter.
Its simple - play for each and the club and the players are all borrowing the jersey they wear. Leave the jersey they wear better off after the leave the club. The coaches too...
