The Robbo Decision - Top 25 Impact

There's been a deal of speculation about Robbo's contract. I've previously stated that he needs to decide quickly. I've also gone on record as saying that the Gutherson contract could finish our Top 25 signings (not second tier signings). These two aspects will now come together.Should Robbo accept a union contract, and this looks increasingly likely, it will likely open up another top 25 spot. Obviously it would mean that we chase another back. There's speculation about Sandor Earl but I'm not sure if signing him would be Top 25 or second tier were it to happen.I reckon that we will hear something very soon about Robbo. Parra won't wait much longer.

  • Is Idris in the mix? Or is he looking at Melb?
    • For the Eels, no.
Idris will stay at Penrith until at least the end of his current contract.

  • I heard Lafai was on the nose at the Bulldogs but maybe that was only if they were after Hoppa.

    • This Lafai saga is a funny one.

There are some among the Dogs camp that would welcome a move for him to allow the likes of McInally or Phillips to move into the first-grade side full-time, but there are others - like Dessie himself - that are playing hardball and want to retain him.
Or so it seems that way.
Interesting to see how this one pans out.

    • What kind of time frame are we looking at Ricky? Isn't it around the start of November when clubs start training again?
  • He'll have some decent opportunity either at centre or the back-row for Penrith, especially with the players they have departing/retiring.

  • Is that one spot left if both Robinson and hoopa leave?
  • There is a possibility for this. If we want to re-sign Alvaro past next season we have the opportunity to front load part of his contract into 2016 and then he'd become top 25 and we have a better chance to re-sign him for longer.

We can use the extra money to do the same for any of our off-contract players.
  • That's just the thing, no-one knows.

Depends which faction of the Dogs board/staff wins out and gets their way.

Yeah, all clubs are usually starting up the first week of November, but some do so beforehand.

I suspect that if this well and truly has any legs at all, we'll know more once the dust around the Hopoate saga is settled.

  • Robbo as good as gone - if he really wanted to stay at Parra he would've signed ages ago.
